interview | charles alexander

Posted by & filed under culture.

By now many of you still don’t know the Australian-born actor and star of the second season of “The Wilds”, Charles Alexander. The series, which has just premiered and is now streaming on Amazon Prime, is a huge success and Charles is feeling it and is proud of it, as he said he is “super-duper pleased” with the end result.  If you’re reading this, it’s because you’re interested in watching the series and getting to know Alexander’s character, Kirin, who Charles describes as not only tall, blond and American, but also fearless and good-natured. These last two characteristics, together with the fact that he is not ashamed of himself, is what attracted and made him decide to accept the role of playing it.  Kirin, as well as not being afraid of anything, is a character who has little tolerance for weakness and who faces these moments with determination. But how does Charles deal with these moments? Well, it seems that in a similar way since, according to what the actor told us, “I just played off the other actors and did my usual prep work and went with the flow. I didn’t have an expectation for how Kirin would be… Read more »

interview | shohreh aghdashloo

Posted by & filed under culture, video.

There could be a hundred voices speaking simultaneously, but none of them could outshine Shohreh Aghdashloo. The Iranian-American actress has a history of over four decades on the big screen, debuting only in her early twenties in theatre plays. ‘I don’t act for the medium, nor the camera, nor for the audience. I act for the sake of acting. But my concentration is on the voice trying to make sure that it’s assertive enough.’  Following her success overseas, with an Academy Award nomination and an Emmy for her outstanding performances in House of Sand and Fog and House of Saddam, Aghdashloo shifted her attention towards yet another passion of hers: voice acting. From video games such as Mass Effect and Destiny to animated series like The Simpsons, The Lion Guard, and Arcane, the actress gained a new following thanks to her extraordinarily unique voice. On television, Aghdashloo has starred in hit shows like 24, Grimm, The Expanse, and most recently HBO’s The Flight Attendant. In the series, now renewed for a second season, Aghdashloo reprises her role as the very vocal AA sponsor, Brenda.  In an exclusive chat, Schön! joins Aghdashloo to reminisce about her inspiring career, discuss her experience on… Read more »

interview | tomer capone

On paper, The Boys is a show about superheroes and vigilantes — but as its many fans know, the Prime Video series is really about — and has the magic of — ordinary people in extraordinary situations. Tomer Capone plays Frenchie, a fan-favourite badass vigilante who carries his heart on his sleeve. In this Schön! online interview, he tells us about his on-set experience, what goes on behind the scenes and the parallels between his life and the reality of The Boys. Season three of The Boys is almost entirely out, and fans are losing their minds! How does it feel to experience all this excitement for something that you worked so hard on for a whole year? It feels amazing. At the end of the day, we are a group of people that really, really love what we do…There was a sense of music in the air when the four of us were together in those couple of first days [in season one]. We really dug each other as people too, and then the Supes came in, we all got to know each other, and before I knew it, it became this massive thing… It belongs to everyone, and… Read more »

interview | colton ryan

Posted by & filed under culture.

Following a moving performance in Dear Evan Hansen, Colton Ryan returns to your screens as Conrad Roy in Hulu’s series, The Girl from Plainville. The series aims to reclaim the devastating story of Conrad Roy and bring attention to the mental health struggles of our youth. The actor now joins Schön! for a heartfelt conversation about his love for acting, his childhood and the actor’s life goal of becoming a father. You attended the School for the Creative and Performing arts at just grade four. When did acting become your dream career? Is there a story behind the moment you decided to pursue this career?  I’m not sure I could describe it as my dream career as it’s more essential than that. The ‘why’ of it has morphed so much over the past two years. When I was without it, or without the mandated time to use the creativity muscle, I felt weak. I was trying to decipher why, and I remembered my ‘origin story’ of how I came to be in my first play. It was Oliver! and the auditions came right during my return to school from a very tragic event. And because SCAPA was so small (and… Read more »

interview | callie hernandez

Posted by & filed under culture, video.

Hailing from Austin, Texas, Callie Hernandez is one of the most exciting names in the film industry right now. Best known for her roles in the 2016 award-winning musical La La Land and box-office hit Alien: Covenant, directed by the one and only Ridley Scott, she is already set to star in the second season of HBO Max’s Emmy nominated series The Flight Attendant, as well as being cast alongside Jennifer Lopez in Lionsgate’s new series Shotgun Wedding, which comes out later this year. Following the huge success of her career to date, there’s no doubt Hernandez is set for big things. With so many exciting opportunities ahead, Schön! sat down with the rising star to find out a little bit more about who’s behind the screen. Hey Callie, it’s lovely to meet you! How are you? How has your year been? Hello! How are you? I’m okay, another year! What’s the first project you did that made you realise you wanted to pursue acting as a full-time career?  It’s a bit nuanced, but the short version is that I did a few days on Terrence Malick’s Song to Song. It was my first time on a film set and… Read more »

In his new memoir Miss Memory Lane, Colton Haynes explores his memories, weaving together a troubling tale of addiction, abuse, Hollywood and more through the lens of memory. Today, he joins Schön! to discuss the book, its reception, music and everything else. MISS MEMORY LANE is out now to high critical acclaim. What has the process been like of seeing your book put out into the world and reading reactions to it? I’m still processing it all, but I’m mostly experiencing an overwhelming feeling of joy. It’s been extra special for me to read reviews from people who haven’t followed my career and see how much they identify with my story. Your book reflects on some deeply personal topics. Have you always been comfortable sharing your deeper struggles with the public, or was there a process you underwent to become more adept at this? I’m terrible at small talk. I’ve always been comfortable sharing my journey with people, the highs and lows, especially over the last four years. I wish more people would, because it’s mutually rewarding and also incredibly freeing.  Obviously it’s difficult to know where to begin your own story. What did your planning process for this book… Read more »

By wearing jewelry on our skin, we declare it an ex- tension of our own nature. When we remove it from this very context, jewelry develops a life of its own. Polished and sparkling, hand-finished to the finest detail, it stands out alongside the fleeting transience of nature and everyday objects that are in constant, reciprocal flux. But what initially stands out, eventually blends in. Smoothly polished, shiny surfaces amalgamate with the patina of nature. And thus place an extended discourse of nature in the space, which exists quite independently of human skin. This Schön! online editorial was photographed by Caroline Fayette. interview | greg tarzan davis

Greg Tarzan Davis can truly say that, if you fight for them and work hard and consistently, dreams really can come true. Why do we say this? Because if there is one thing Tarzan can be proud of, it is earning a living from the profession he dreamed of pursuing since he was a child — acting. His hard work and perseverance recently brought him to the cast Top Gun: Maverick, sharing the screen with cinema legends Tom Cruise, Jennifer Connelly and others. Schön! talks to Tarzan about his role in the film, his beginnings in acting and more. First of all, congratulations on Top Gun: Maverick. What has it meant to you to be part of this movie? It’s been a surreal feeling being a part of a legacy that the original Top Gun has, and mind-blowing to think I am a part of shaping up another legacy with Top Gun: Maverick.  How would you describe your character Coyote?  Coyote is a hot shot pilot who is one of the best in the Navy. interview | eva de dominici

Posted by & filed under culture.

Summer is in the air. The sky is bright, flowers are in bloom — and Fox announced that we will be seeing more of talented ray of sunshine Eva De Dominici. A Buenos Aires native and actress-cum-model, the Argentinian has radiated star-quality since she was a child in 2005. Her ascent from television comedies to American crime thrillers has garnered a diverse and loyal following, who were delighted in May when Fox announced the imminent production of The Cleaning Lady‘s second season. This meant the return of Dominici’s formidable character, Nadia Morales. Wife to mob boss Arman Morales (Adan Canto), her fiercely determined and uncompromising persona has earned her the villainous nickname ‘Lady Macbeth’. Not only does Marales encourage her husband’s gangster ways, but her mastery of manipulation has fascinated watchers. The role precedes a roster of dynamic parts in shows and films like Hawaii Five-0, Blessed Dream and The Fragility Of Bodies, the latter of which saw Dominici win the Premios Martín Fierro (a prestigious Argentinian trophy) in 2017. Join us as we sit down with the star to talk about her acting technique, thoughts on The Cleaning Lady and what it’s like navigating a crowded industry.  You’ve worked… Read more »

hybrid beauty II: flashback | meet designer moon chang

Posted by & filed under fashion.

Designer Moon Chang has long been on Schön!’s radar. We first covered the label’s work back in 2019, where we gave a full introduction to the label, its ethics and the passions that lie behind its work. In 2021, we followed up with the label as it released VENUS IN BLACK, a new lifestyle label. Today, we return with another interview with the mind behind the label for the stunning new collection, Hybrid Beauty II: Flashback. Last time we chatted was in March of 2021. How has your work developed over the course of the past year? The last time, in March 2021, I introduced my launch of a ready to wear line, Venus In Black, fashion for humans and dogs. I realised that my identity as a designer comes from the origin of creativity and craftsmanship, so I decided to work on my hybrid couture line to bring stimulation as a creator. This couture collection will become my new inspiration for the upcoming ready to wear line, so that it becomes a continuous story of dark fairytale, which never ends. Introduce us to Hybrid Beauty II: Flashback. Starting from my personal story when I had PTSD while doing fashion… Read more »

futurism

Posted by & filed under fashion.

The story is inspired by the 20th century Futurism art movement. The decisions on colours and composition rhythms are influenced by the artworks of Gino Severini, and Umberto Boccioni. The images reference the characteristics of futurism: speed, movement, youth, and distortion of shape and colour in movement. Styling refers to the 1920 – 1930s fashion, but also to geometric and distorted shapes, presenting the character as a sculpture. Schön! 42 digital cover | jesse james keitel

Posted by & filed under beauty, culture, fashion, video.

Jesse James Keitel speaks to Schön! about her part in Queer As Folk, past struggles and mastering self-love. Over a few short years, the inimitable Jesse James Keitel has amassed an impressive line-up of emotive and poignant television shows and films. As you’d hope, the girl beyond the camera is just as compelling. She’s appeared in docuseries, walked in drag at Opening Ceremony’s 2019 spring/summer fashion show and overcome adversity with the iron grit of a queen. Keitel will soon return to our TV sets in the upcoming reboot of Queer As Folk, which focuses on a group of friends muddling through life together. It’s a project that has helped the star find herself, she details. “We’re painfully similar,” says the Long Island native about Ruthie, her vivacious character on the show. As well as being trans women, the pair share a zest for life and an endearing self-belief that blossomed throughout filming. Although Keitel typically avoids “the illusion of glamour that comes with Hollywood”, Ruthie shares no such qualms, and reportedly gives attitude 24/7 by exuding sexuality with greater gusto than the “pared back” thespian initially thought possible. A “reformed partier”, she’s also the polar opposite of Jerry Kennedy,… Read more »

interview | talulah riley

Posted by & filed under culture.

Bold, rebellious, chaotic — punk! There’s no other way to describe Talulah Riley in Pistol, the new limited series inspired by one of England’s most iconic rock bands — the Sex Pistols. The series, directed by Danny Boyle, recounts the rise to fame of the band during the 1970s, putting in focus the Punk movement and its vigorous spirit.  In the series, Riley is the legendary fashion designer, Vivienne Westwood, who at the time dated Sex Pistols’ manager Malcolm McLaren and designed garments for the band. No novice to period and historical dramas, Riley is renowned for her roles in Pride and Prejudice and The Last Witness, but her undoubtable versatility makes her the perfect fit for such a strong character.  But acting is just another feather in her cap. Riley is also the creative writer behind novels such as Acts of Love and The Quickening. Schön! sat down with Riley to discuss Pistol, her diverse acting career and her introduction to authorship.  How did you first get into acting? Was your father an influence?    I’ve always really enjoyed acting, I took Saturday acting classes at Sylvia Young and loved being involved in drama productions at school. But my father… Read more »

You’ve seen Lexi Underwood before. She’s the brilliant young actress from Little Fires Everywhere. Now she’s an American royal in Showtime’s The First Lady. As President Obama’s eldest daughter, Malia, Lexi Underwood conveys a sense of what it was like to spend adolescence in the White House as part of the first non-white First Family. But portraying Malia was not easy, as the President’s daughter is guarded from the public eye, and beyond that, Malia is a private citizen with her own identity. “There’s not a lot of information regarding Malia or Sasha out on the internet,” Underwood explains, “and it was incredibly hard to find videos that I could draw from when it comes to how she talks – the cadence, the facial expressions that she makes, and the little things that make Malia… Malia.” To prepare for the role, Underwood read A Promised Land and Becoming (President Obama’s and the First Lady’s memoirs, respectively). “I wanted to really get a sense of who the Obamas were – outside of just the First Family,” she says. She also made a video playlist of any clips she could find of Malia. “I was on YouTube almost every single day. I… Read more »

Posted by & filed under culture, fashion.

Rick Castro is a photographer, filmmaker, art curator and blogger living in Los Angeles. He is best known for his stunning black-and-white fetish photography; his Antebellum Gallery in Hollywood, featuring other fetish artists; and his jointly produced film Hustler White, a romantic comedy about male hustlers on Santa Monica Boulevard. Castro has worked with celebrities and street people, major publications and indie zines. This interview will focus on his development as an artist in a hetero-dominated world. Thank you, Rick, for agreeing to be interviewed for Schön! Magazine. Because readers are always curious about beginnings, let’s start with some background. What is your cultural heritage?  I’ve been able to trace my maternal ancestry back to the town of Zacatecas in the state of Zacatecas, north-central Mexico. (“Zacatecas” means “where there is abundant grass.”) From what I could gather from all the questions I asked my relatives, our family is Chichimeca, originally an indigenous nomadic people who were largely decimated by Spanish colonists. My mother’s family ranch, a minimal but functional adobe structure, dates back to the 1830s. A working ranch to this day, there my relatives grow corn, garlic and chili but no longer raise livestock.  My favourite story from this… Read more »

Travis Fimmel, wearing Jil Sander and Maison Margiela for this digital cover, becomes both bounty hunter and producer in the Western That Dirty Black Bag. Travis Fimmel, best known for his roles as Ragnar Lothbrok in Vikings and Marcus in Raised by Wolves, is back on our screens in That Dirty Black Bag, a Western where a sheriff and a bounty hunter face off. “You could say it’s a revenge story, but it’s such a great spaghetti western,” Fimmel tells us, his Australian accent still intact despite over 20 years of living Stateside. The AMC+ drama series set in the savage Wild West chronicles an eight-day battle between Sheriff Arthur McCoy [Dominic Cooper] and Red Bill [Douglas Booth], infamous for decapitating his victims and dragging their heads in a black bag. “The lead character’s mother was slaughtered when he was a child and he witnessed it,” Fimmel explains. “So, it’s him searching for that man, and the rivalry he finds along the way.” In the series, Fimmel plays another bounty hunter, but one who teaches kids the craft of seeking rewards. Despite struggling with a lot of personal issues, his character always tries to do what he thinks is right…. Read more »

The company was founded in June of 2021 by Nabal Araya, immediately setting out to create a new, progressive gin brand. Targeting a young demographic, the label seeks to revolutionise the spirits industry with bold style and a high-quality product. Now, the tasty gin is ready to make its debut, doing so in an event that featured some of Berlin’s best and brightest. On the backdrop of tunes by DJs Martafakka and Stimulus, the event took place across several areas at the In-Hotel Provocateur, where attendees danced and conversed while sipping on the fresh new spirit. Eventually, Rap superstar Badchieff welcomed everyone to the first “Giant Moment”, followed soon after by London rapper Unknown T.  Everyone involved became part of a great and giant community. interview | pablo schreiber

Posted by & filed under culture.

No novice to small screen success, Pablo Schreiber has carved out a covetable career for himself built on back-to-back roles in iconic shows. From The Wire to Weeds to Orange Is The New Black, his choice of on-screen portrayals show us that the only calculable facet of Pablo’s career is the unpredictability of his range. Halo, the futuristic sci-fi drama based on the video game franchise of the same name, showcases Schreiber’s prowess in a whole new light, as he portrays superhero warrior Master Chief Petty Officer John-117. Historically, Halo obscured the identity of Master Chief to broaden the personal connection that players felt with the supersoldier; however, with Pablo in command of the role, the Mjolnir-powered helmet that once concealed Master Chief’s self is removed, and the emotional dynamism between viewers and the superhero hinges on Schreiber’s delivery. Schön! sat down the actor with to discuss his views on heroism, why his trajectory is serendipitously stamped by iconic projects, and how he celebrated his recent birthday in the most perfect way. Congratulations on this [role as Master Chief]! Historically, you’ve worked on iconic series and shows before they’re established as iconic; The Wire, Orange is the New Black, Weeds,… Read more »

“Believe in Time” for this new piece from GRAMMY Award-winning singer, songwriter and visual artist Solange Knowles in collaboration with Chinese couture designer Guo Pei, and French-Senegalese Cannes Festival’s Grand Prix winning director Mati Diop. “Time and space are really at the foundation of my expressions,” Solange explains of the piece. “I’m a strong believer that the space and time surrounding our work is just as important as the work itself, and world making has been a part of my practice for quite some time now. These ideas align with what is being expressed with LOUIS XIII’s creation, Believe in Time.” To craft this piece, Solange worked alongside esteemed designer Guo Pei to create a fashion artwork entitled Mother Earth. The spirit of the project is embodied by Mother Earth, which is sourced from precious fabrics, rocks and metals and took more than two years to create. The piece was crafted with Chinese ancestral techniques for the embroideries, which Pei says was essential for the process.  “I aim to create heirlooms to be handed down from one generation to the next,” Pei details. “With posterity in mind, I picture my creations as eternal, and precious objects that will connect our… Read more »

Morena Baccarin is the leading star in NBC’s latest psychological thriller series The Endgame. She shares her views on bad guy clichés, supporting civic-minded theatre and her commitment to beauty from within. Morena Baccarin graces a Zoom call as she does the big screen: with an illuminating smile, paired with witty, insightful conversation. The Rio-born, NYC-raised actress is one of those Hollywood faces who became even more familiar during lockdown. “I get stopped a lot,” she admits, “and people tell me ‘I binge watched that show, and it got me through.’ That’s such a gift.” Over the past ten years, she has taken on romcoms as well as sci-fi movies and reached global stardom with series like Homeland and the Deadpool franchise: all binge-watchable favourites and a testament to her versatility as an actress. Baccarin could have easily been type cast as the ‘sassy Latina’. Instead, she’s built her career by playing a series of multifaceted roles where psychology is often key. A good example is her latest work in The Endgame, where she plays the leading character Elena Federova, an Eastern European arms dealer and criminal mastermind who gets captured by the FBI. Federova starts her captivity in a… Read more »

With the series coming to a dramatic end, Schön sat down with Hublitz to talk about her big break on Ozark, how distinctively different she and her character are, and the joy she felt growing up on the set.  Ozark has finally come to an end after five whole years. What was it like filming those final scenes? What was the atmosphere on set? It was never somber. We all tried to shy away from the undeniable fact that it was coming to an end, but we all just enjoyed being together and getting to see each other at work every day. It was only [during] the last week that it dawned on us, and we settled in our sentimentality and nostalgia. Even so, it was beautiful and upbeat the entire time. It’s something that continues to this day.  This role is your first big break into your flourishing acting career. How did you come to join this project? It was pretty typical. Olivia DeJonge is ready to rock and roll as Priscilla Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s high-anticipated Elvis. Speaking to us from New York, Australian Olivia DeJonge describes the city that never sleeps as “bustling” and “with such incredible energy”. If you have been following the 23-year-old, you will know that’s also a fitting description for her career, as the actress greets new experiences with warmth and charm. Lately, everything feels new for DeJonge, which she reasons is thanks to the pandemic. “[The pandemic] has sort of forced people to be a lot more creative,” she explains. As for what’s changed in the industry since she started out, DeJonge confesses she was too young as a “bright-eyed 12-yearold” to make a comparison, but despite this, even she recognises the recent evolution of increased awareness and representation. “I think it’s been a really interesting thing to be able to develop and grow sort of with the industry as it’s becoming a lot more self-aware of its impact on the community.” This conversation about community transitions naturally to DeJonge’s camping-gone-wrong experience on Netflix’s The Society. “In hindsight, there’s definitely some parallels between art imitating life and life imitating art,” she comments regarding the timing… Read more »

The spirit of youth is alive and well in this riveting new Spring/Summer 2022 Denim campaign from Versace Jeans Couture. This season, Versace Jeans Couture embraced a relaxed, grungy attitude to create FOREVER YOUNG — utilising vintage stone washes and remastered patchwork styles to craft a series full of life and indomitable spirit. Elevating this energy is the collection’s accompanying campaign by Danish photographers Maria and Louise Thornfeldt and film director Roberto Colombo. For this one-of-a-kind campaign, photography duo of Maria and Louise Thornfeldt captured a mosaic of colourful portraits, shooting models on candy-coloured backdrops to further invoke a potent sense of young rebellion.  The film from director Roberto Colombo carries these emotions even further, offering a playful mixed media experience that incorporates animation and a dreamy soundscape to create a world that is truly sublime.  Journey with us into the adolescent wonder of this new Spring/Summer 2022 Denim campaign from Versace Jeans Couture, and explore the full collection on the label’s website. Justin H. Min infuses humanity into After Yang’s techno-sapiens world. After a walk along the beach in L.A., Justin H. Min sits down with Schön! for his interview and, unconventionally, is the one to kick off with the questions. It shouldn’t come as a surprise because the 31-year-old actor, best known for his role as Ben Hargreaves in The Umbrella Academy, was once a journalist himself. “It’s so surreal when I get interviewed because I used to do this all the time,” he explains. “One thing I love about journalism is this idea where you connect with people, listen to their stories and ask questions.” Nowadays, instead of writing the narrative, he plays it himself. In the sci-fi drama After Yang – where he stars alongside Collin Farrell and Jodie Turner-Smith – Min portrays a robot. When his character suddenly stops functioning, the family that bought him realises that the bot meant more to them than they initially thought. As they try to save Yang’s life, they navigate through the loss, the memories and the emotions associated with grief. “It’s really fascinating! The more I talk to people about the film, the more different parts resonate with different people,” Min… Read more »

Schön! 42 digital cover | brittany snow

Posted by & filed under beauty, culture, fashion.

As she stars in Ti West’s slasher romp, Brittany Snow shows she’s not afraid to get X-Rated. It’s no secret that female sexuality comes at a price in your typical slasher movie – a notion that Brittany Snow was all too aware of as she first read the script for X. It’s set in 1979 as a group of young filmmakers embark on making a low-budget pornographic film, but acclaimed horror writer and director Ti West aims to subvert these all too familiar slasher tropes. While Snow had some initial reservations, it was West’s vision for the film that quickly put her mind at ease. “When you read a script that’s about porn in the 70s, if it’s not done in the right way, it can be seen as gratuitous,” she says. “It wasn’t until I talked to Ti and realised how character-driven the sex scenes were and that it was more about the confidence that these women had and how they were trying to make something of their lives…I felt that it wasn’t just for shock value or for the men to see this movie. It was a challenge to let go of these preconceived notions.” Snow plays the… Read more »

interview | myha’la herrold

With high stakes, intense pressure and even bigger egos, the corporate world has formed an unexpected backdrop to some of TV’s standout hits in recent years. Industry is no exception, taking a no holds barred look into the unscrupulous world of corporate banking. One of the standout characters, Harper Stern, played by Myha’la Herrold, perfectly embodies someone hellbent on corporate success. Away from the world of corporate finance, Herrold is set to appear in the Obama-backed Netflix adaptation of the bestselling novel Leave the World Behind which sheds light on the highly fraught themes of race, parenthood and class.  Some of the best and most divisive TV characters are those who do what we least expect them – something that first drew Herrold to the tenacious Harper Stern. She enthuses, “Harper was the first Black American woman character that didn’t fall into any stereotype or trope that I’d seen of Black American woman in television. She turned left when you’d expect her to turn right. That for me felt like the meaning of representation — a story of a unique or different individual still worthy of being told, which in turn makes people who watch it who are also unique… Read more »

embracing the ecstasy of rave

Posted by & filed under fashion.

“We want to be free to do what we want to do! And we want to get loaded! And we want to have a good time! That’s what we’re gonna do!” This excerpt from Primal Scream’s 1990 track Loaded introduced Dries Van Noten’s SS22 Men’s collection and heralded a season of baggy slacks, drop-shoulder shirts and neon stripes. What The Guardian coined “dopamine dressing” in 2017 has returned with a vengeance, as cheerful colour-blocking pervades the high street and runways. Junya Watanabe’s scrambled prints and VTMNTS’ bold graphics reprise the euphoric ensembles worn by nocturnal misfits who raged to techno tunes and sweated liquid ecstasy. From 1985 to the early 90s, early rave culture was fuelled by drugs and the electric styles of both House and Techno music that were tearing up Chicago’s gay club scene and Detroit’s many underground spaces. Quickly dominating sound systems across the globe, its heady migration from America to Ibiza, London and ‘Madchester’ was chronicled in music reviews by the former editor of The Face and The Observer and author of rave-themed book Adventures in Wonderland, Sheryl Garratt. “It was about comfort, being able to move, and being practical,” she says, praising the baggy wardrobe… Read more »

Obviously, very excited to work with all of these people and to be a part of something that really, really matters! The show follows the sensitive topic of the Betsy Faria murder case, and probably required a lot of emotional preparation. What were some of the ways that you prepared for this part of Mariah Day? Well, I did as much research as I absolutely could, and tried to find everything I could find in terms of Mariah and her sister, Leah, and anything on Pam Hupp, on Betsy, on Russ. I also was lucky enough — well, Mariah graciously gave me some… Read more »

For Lolo Zouaï, building digital connectivity was already part of her arsenal. She’s been documenting her ascent to stardom on YouTube for years. “Since I started touring, I’ve been doing LO-FÏLES. With a career in dancing and singing prior to his acting debut — Tømmeras has already shown us that he is a man of many talents. The accomplished actor now returns to your screen as Fjor for the last season of Netflix’s binge worthy fantasy series Ragnarok — a series that is not only bringing global attention to Norse mythology, but is also raising awareness on climate change. Schön! spoke with Tømmeras about his hobbies, upcoming projects and Netflix’s critically acclaimed series Ragnarok. Herman, alongside acting you have a passion for dancing and singing. How do you think your dance and singing training has influenced your work today? Would you consider taking on any roles that highlight these talents of yours?  For me, one of the best things about being an actor is to get to play around with characters — figure out how they move, talk, deal with stuff and react to things. Since I’ve been dancing for so long, I feel really comfortable stepping out of my comfort zone regarding movement. That comes in really handy when asked to do something that’s really challenging, like… Read more »

Indomitable, curious and pioneering — three words that encapsulate the very essence of Aleksandr Kuznetsov.  The renowned actor recently graced our screens in J. K. Rowling’s wizarding world, making an impressive debut in the Fantastic Beasts franchise as Helmut. Acting, however, is merely one facet of Kuznetsov; through the media of music, writing and directing, he relishes every opportunity to open his mind to any creative craft that stumbles upon his path with a warm vulnerability.  Join Schön! as Kuznetsov candidly discusses his experience growing up in Crimea, his journey into acting, joining the Fantastic Beasts franchise and his wishes for the future. Hello! First of all, how are you? How has 2022 treated you so far? Hi guys. I can’t complain — I’m a lucky bastard. With all the horrors that our world has been experiencing the last years, somehow I always find myself having a lot of energy to move forward. Especially now, after the war in Ukraine started, I feel more motivated and urged than ever to make art and challenge perspectives. That’s why I think I’m lucky — no matter what’s happening I only ever feel low for a few days tops. Then my mind is… Read more »

I don’t think I can put a time stamp on it — I’ve always been a giver! I love wrapping presents, and was one of those people who would spend entirely too much time wrapping presents during Christmas and trying to tie the perfect bow. I love the aesthetic of a well wrapped gift, and I also think it is a way to show my love for someone. Like, it’s pretty apparent when someone takes their time to wrap a gift and the recipient can see the effort put into it, you know? What was it like transitioning from forensic science to running a business? Well, I started working on the concept while I… Read more »

MOVCREATOR | meet designer QIAN WU

Label MOVCREATOR creates fluid designs inspired by movement. The brand casts its pieces not on mannequins, but on bodies in motion, creating a simultaneous complexity and ease of wear that is sure to captivate both the wearer and anyone who views it. MOVCREATOR’s latest collection, MOVEMENT CREATES, takes this idea to its extreme, employing assistance from a physical therapist to craft entrancing, technical looks. Schön! speaks with label founder Qian Wu for more information. What’s your history as a designer? My name is Qian Wu. I come from Changsha, one of the hottest cities in China, and I’m now an activewear fashion designer based in NYC. I believe in creations inspired by movement. Athleisure appears in each of my collections, which was initially because I used to live close to Yue Lu Mountain before college. I had to hike for 30 minutes to get to school, so hiking has always been part of my daily exercise. I got used to that, and that inspired a lot of athleisure. I graduated with a BFA degree in fashion design and engineering in 2019. Now, I pay more attention to wearability, functionality, and always design in an ergonomic way… Then, I studied at… Read more »
