There’s a sweet spot in the R&B scene right now it what can only be described as a new-age renaissance of the genre. It’s a revival that is largely led by the voices of women and rising artist Hailey Knox represents what is so exciting about the scene right now. The LA-based New Yorker effortlessly blends melodic riffs, crystals vocals and yearning lyricism that reels you in. Knox’s sound is best explored in her debut EP For The Best where she is boldly experiments with production, blending her vocals with pulsing instrumentals. In each song, there is a simplicity that allows every element from the drums to her catchy hooks to shine. For the curious listener, Knox often posts videos TikTok of her process which highlight how hands-on the artist is with the production of each song. In celebration of her ‘For The Best’ EP release, Knox has curated a playlist of songs that give a little more insight into her artistry.
Hey Hailey, what are you up to right now?
Just got some iced tea this morning. Realising that I like tea more than coffee, and a lot of great sessions lined up.
If someone asked you what your origin story was, how would you describe it?
My dad taught me how to play guitar around seven and that led into studio sessions and lots of songs.

Melodic, tone, smoky
Why do you think you are particularly drawn to R&B music?
R&B has a lot of soul and feeling.
You’ve used platforms like TikTok to share your work. How important is putting yourself out there on social media for new artists?
I think it’s important. It’s also scary and can be a big distraction so it’s all about balance.
What do you think your debut EP says about this era of your journey?
This era is me not being afraid to try new things, to fail and really find what sonically makes me excited. There are a lot of exciting moments and it’s been a great foundation for self-discovery.
How would you describe what listening to For The Best feels like?
It feels like your first love, first heartbreak, an inner dialogue.
And can you share why you decided to give your debut EP this title?
Throughout my relationships — whether that’s with myself or my boyfriend — when things feel uncertain and confusing, seeing that it really was all “For The Best” and that there was a reason things unfolded [that way.]
If you could play any venue, which one would it be?
Madison Square Garden!!
When are you happiest?
Creating, binge watching a show, eating.
