work life balance?
The tabloid press, often dismissed as trivial and sensationalist, deserves a nuanced appreciation. Michel Houellebecq once said, “Anything can happen in life, especially nothing,” and given the huge circulation of tabloids, many seek excitement in others’ lives to escape their own monotony. This may also involve “Schadenfreude,” as it brings idealized celebrities closer to our reality, offering a moment of personal uplift. Unlike reality TV, the tabloid press’s portrayal of celebrities’ downgrading appears more reconciliatory and less mean-spirited. René Girard’s theory of mimetic desire suggests we imitate others’ desires, with celebrities acting as models whose lifestyles and errors provoke fascination. This dynamic can have both creative and destructive outcomes. The romanticized archetype of the troubled artist, like Amy Winehouse or Kurt Cobain, transforms them into cultural icons. Conversely, celebrity scandals highlighted by tabloids can destroy careers and reputations, sometimes unjustly. While tabloids face criticism for using shocking headlines to set societal norms and distract from pressing issues, they are also praised for democratizing information. By exposing the personal lives of the elite, tabloids reveal that even those at the top are not immune to mistakes. Ultimately, the stories in tabloid pages reflect our daily lives, just spiced up with glam,… Read more »

While the esteemed viewers of Bridgerton, Season Three could be forgiven for being preoccupied with the will-they-won’t-they relationship of Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, it’s arguably the bond of female friendship that takes centre stage in the latest instalment of the racy Regency drama. Rather unexpectedly, at the heart of this tale is the mean girl of yester-season, Cressida Cowper, played by Jessica Madsen, who’s unlikely friendship with Eloise Bridgerton reveals the power of female companionship. As she navigates the expectations faced by women in Mayfair’s 19th century ton, Madsen’s performance conveys the complexities and intricacies of Cressida’s desperation, presenting a character you can’t help but root for. As with any mean girl, glimpses into Cressida’s life behind the manicured closed doors of her family’s townhouse offered Madsen a chance to explore the nuances of her character in more depth. She considers, “It’s important for us to see a different side to her and understand why she is the way that she is. You see a softness to her. But it does shift, she armours back up as she’s really in a place of desperation… She wants to live a life that will bring her happiness which she’s learnt is… Read more »

friend studio
What does community and collectivity mean to you? For artist Sylvia Friend, it means leading a cutting-edge and unique multimedia art and fashion atelier called Friend Studio. Community is at the center of everything that Friend Studio creates by uplifting, supporting, and reinvesting in local areas by partnering with fellow artisans and small businesses to work together. Friend Studio’s projects highlight the intrinsic value of small businesses, encouraging viewers to reflect on the connection between art, artist, and artistic expression — and why our communities are shaped by specific art and culture. Schön! sits down with Sylvia Friend to discuss creating Friend Studio, what it’s like to foster a strong sense of community through her work, and more. What made you want to begin Friend Studio? I started Friend Studio while I was in college, nearly six years ago. Truthfully, at that time it was just me in an apartment painting what I thought looked cool and appealing on canvas. The concept of ‘Friend Studio’ as a full art atelier — a studio that collaborates with other local artisans globally — wasn’t fully realized until the last three years. My initial experience painting in college planted the seeds for this concept…. Read more »

recovery mode | Nike x Hyperice
Recovery time is about to get drastically reduced thanks to Nike and Hyperice. The two innovative brands have developed the Nike x Hyperice boots and vest, wearable technologies designed to optimize athletic performance during training and competition. “Recovery is crucial for any athlete, but we’re hearing that ‘pre-covery’ is just as important,” says Tobie Hatfield, Senior Director of Nike Athlete Innovation. “The footwear and vest developed with Hyperice help prepare the body for activity, whether you’re competing for a title or spending long hours on your feet at work.” With a simple press of a button, athletes can synchronize the heat and compression of both shoes or operate them individually, choosing from three levels of compression and heat, powered by a battery pack in each insole. Athlete feedback is essential for the ongoing development of the boots and vest. Nike and Hyperice are gathering input from athletes as they integrate these products into their routines. The Nike x Hyperice innovations will be released at a later date, continuing to push the boundaries of athletic performance and recovery. “Taking care of my body has always been key to my preparation as a basketball player, allowing me to maintain a high level… Read more »

TOMMY HILFIGER is fusing their signature preppy aesthetic with the undeniable power of the Mercedes-AMG F1 Team by handing the wheel to emerging designer Clarence Ruth for a limited-edition capsule collection. Initially launched at the Barcelona Grand Prix the innovative collection sees Ruth reinterpret what everyone currently knows as TOMMY HILFIGER signature style — all while the collection brings together F1 icons like Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. “Designing this collection pushed me to explore new creative horizons,” says Ruth. “Typically, I design tailored pieces, but with sports being the foundation of this collection, I had to think more expansively. Collaborating with Tommy Hilfiger and Mercedes-AMG F1™ has been an extraordinary journey, from selecting colors to finalizing designs. I feel truly fortunate.” The 10-piece motorsport-inspired lifestyle collection blends heritage with forward-thinking design. Ruth’s innovative approach is evident in items like a colour-blocked varsity jacket, embroidered chino pants, and soccer jerseys featuring the drivers’ racing numbers. shifting space
At a time where art converges with innovation, Serrera Hu stands as a luminary. She is not merely a fashion designer; she is a spatial visionary, a maestro orchestrating the delicate dance between individuals, their attire, and the spaces they inhabit. Hu’s philosophy is a tapestry woven with threads of curiosity and structural ingenuity. Fashion, in her eyes, is not a mere adornment but a dynamic entity that breathes life into the spatial contexts it inhabits. Her designs do more than adorn; they sculpt spaces, crafting an intimate dialogue between the garment and the wearer, between form and function. Her creations are a testament to her belief that fashion can be an immersive experience, transcending the runway to engage with the world around us. Her latest collection, SHIFTING SPACE, is a profound reflection of this ethos. Born from the raw, elemental inspiration of camping, it captures the essence of shelters conjured from fabric and poles. Serrera’s structural experiments, reminiscent of the flexible tunnels supporting tents, have given birth to garments that are as versatile as they are visionary. These foldable, portable pieces are designed for ease and adaptability, much like the tents that inspired them. By incorporating removable sticks, the… Read more »
in the oasis of linen | zegna 2025 collection
The 2025 collection for Zegna was a celebration of uniqueness — a showcase of singularity. The show, which was built on this premise, set in an austere, vacant industrial space. Yet, amidst the stark white walls, a sudden bloom of linen plants emerges, transforming the lifeless environment into a vibrant scene. But these are not real plants; they’re metal blades, painted in a lively Sentiero yellow, mimicking nature’s vibrancy. This show explores the intersection of man-made and natural, highlighting individuality and the beauty of differences, embodied by ZEGNA’s new chapter and the lush Oasi of Linen collection. “Now that our reformed vocabulary has been established,” states Artistic Director Alessandro Sartori in the show notes. “It is the moment to focus on how items are or can be used, on the singular ways they mold to individual personalities.” Sartori continuously experiments with shapes, attitudes, and fabrics — and for summer, linen is the essence of ZEGNA’s ethos. Supple yet sturdy, sensual yet rough, Oasi Lino is woven and knitted into a wardrobe that epitomizes a well-to-do summer: light, playful pieces. Breezy, soft, and easy are just three of the words that encapsulate the silhouettes for this collection, showcasing the body seamlessly…. Read more »

mirrored image | fendi menswear spring 2025
The Spring 2025 Fendi menswear show kicked off the brand’s centennial celebrations with a collection rich in historical and symbolic references. Silvia Venturini Fendi, diving deep into the archives, brought the past, present, and future of the house into focus, exploring the brand’s codes and symbols. A newly designed house crest took center stage, divided into four sections: the iconic Double-F logo by Karl Lagerfeld, the vintage Pequin stripe, a squirrel symbolizing co-founder Edoardo Fendi’s affectionate nickname for his wife Adele, and Janus, the Roman god of transitions, an emblem Lagerfeld also used. For its men’s 2025 collection, Fendi swapped its usual Via Solari HQ show space, currently undergoing renovations and expansion, for a studio lot-like venue on the outskirts of Milan. This grand setting featured enormous, remote-controlled mirrored blocks that spun around the runway, reflecting both audience and models. Silvia Venturini Fendi, the creative force behind Fendi’s menswear and accessories, drew inspiration from a deep dive into the house’s archives. As the Roman brand celebrates its 100th anniversary, Venturini Fendi introduced a commemorative crest featuring four of the house’s iconic motifs, including the famous double-F emblem, adorning sweaters and shirts. The collection exuded a varsity vibe, with striped knit… Read more »
the other ferrari
You don’t need to be a motor racing F1 fanatic or sports car enthusiast to recognise the image: F1 winning drivers on the podium uncorking gigantic bottles of alcohol and spraying each other (and everyone else) in hedonistic victory. It’s an iconic sporting moment. But where does this bottle of bubbly come from? Who is behind it all? Schön! set forth to find out. According to Italians, the surname Ferrari is very common. As common as a British Smith or a German Schmidt. And whilst the majority of the world hears Ferrari, we think of sports cars, but there are other more elusive—yet very important—Ferrari’s. Hidden in the winding mist-drenched mountains of Trento, Italy lies a vineyard that produces wine under the label Ferrari Trento. And whilst Ferrari Trento has no relation to the Ferrari cars that we all know and admire, since 2021 it’s been the official toast of F1. It is THE sparkling wine (not champagne, as most think) that we see uncorked on the podium and the F1 racers shake and spray. Presiding over these lush mountain vineyards sits a magnificent 16th century residence named Villa Margon. With stunningly vivid frescos and priceless antiques, Villa Margon serves as… Read more »

explore your essence | colmar x luca tribondea
Versatility is part of Luca Tribondeau‘s DNA. The Austrian freestyle skier known for his performances in slopestyle and big air events has competed at various international levels, including the Winter X Games and the Winter Olympics. Now, he turns his talents from hitting the slopes to positioning himself behind the lens as a photographer. Again, it’s that all-around adaptability that makes him so unique. It’s apt, then, that Tribondeau wears Colmar — a brand known for being versatile and functional — so easily. “I travelled the world as a skier and, in 2014, I bought my first camera as I wanted to share the beautiful moments I got to see with family and friends,” Tribondeau explains. “What was inspiring me was to freeze time, and to communicate my point of view to the spectators. I wanted to learn something else than sports after the Olympics. I know sports are the ultimate thing for me but the marketing world was always very interesting to me and photography plays a huge roll, so I am very happy to help out companies with my visual language in communicating their products to their customers.” Working alongside brands and companies has helped shape Tribondeau’s worldview,… Read more »
interview | sean bankhead
In recent years Sean Bankhead’s choreography has been a part of multiple viral moments, gaining a reputation for infectious routines you can’t help but attempt —while contributing to the replay factor of many of your favourite music videos. Although the general public began to sit up and take note of the director/creative director in 2022, “that’s when the world really started to notice my talents,” Bankhead is anything but an overnight success. With a work ethic that has seen the choreographer go from viral passion projects to creating choreography for legends like Missy Elliot, Schön! talks to Bankhead about the drive behind pursuing his goals, going viral, performing with Usher at the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show and more. Over the past few years your name has pretty much been cemented in pop culture, but how would you describe what you do to someone who is completely new to your world? I believe my recent contributions to pop culture have brought the same excitement you used to feel as a young adult fan of music, when pop culture, pop stars, and especially music videos and performances were magnificent spectacles. People have told me I remind them of the nostalgia from… Read more »
a summer to remember | telekom x sugababes
Deutsche Telekom invited all of Gen Z to join their ‘Summer to Remember’ event series. With over 10,000 free music events across Europe this summer, Telekom kicked off the series in Berlin with a free DJ set by DJ Heartstring and a surprise headliner performance by the English R&B girl group Sugababes. Co-hosted with Telekom Electronic Beats, the show took place inside a corner shop deli (or späti as the Germans call it) in the neighbourhood of Friedrichshain, where crowds of people started gathering by late afternoon. By the evening, the entire street was blocked off, and what was promised as an impromptu DJ set grew into a block party. DJ Heartstring took to the decks behind the deli counter, his music heard from even blocks away. By the time Sugababes arrived on the scene, the deli had been transformed into a full nightclub—with strobe lights, streamers, and a crowd that made the line outside Berghain look like a child’s playground. The R&B trio dazzled the crowd with their biggest hits as well as their the revamp of their hit single Push the Button. With a successful first show up their sleeve, we’re excited to see what other surprises Deutsche… Read more »

interview | tom burke
Tom Burke understands the beauty of being surprised. In his role as Praetorian Jack in Furiosa, he embraced the unexpected and unusual — especially given that the film is a post-apocalyptic action movie that asks audiences to suspend belief and explore a world different from our own. Set against the backdrop of post-apocalyptic Australasian wilderness, the film stars Anya Taylor-Joy as a fierce young Furiosa, the tough, one-armed warrior originally portrayed by Charlize Theron. Opposite her is Burke, clad in battered leather, who broods as Praetorian Jack—a stoic, sharp-shooting convoy driver aiding Furiosa in her quest for vengeance against the warlord (Chris Hemsworth) who murdered her mother. Though Burke’s role is impressively understated, it’s the quasi-romance between Jack and Furiosa that infuses the film with its emotional core, grappling with themes of grief and loss. Schön! speaks with Burke about preparing for the role of Praetorian Jack in Furiosa, what surprised him about working alongside Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy, and more. What unexpected challenges did you face while bringing Praetorian Jack to life in Furiosa, and how did you overcome them? The usual ones always surprise me. Under the creative direction of Helena Tejedor, Desigual’s archival pieces are transformed into fresh, contemporary masterpieces. The accessories lineup boasts bold Voyager maxi bags, sandals emblazoned with Desigual’s signature “D” on the heel, and chic Gigi Studios sunglasses. Schön! 46 digital cover | juno temple in COMME des GARÇONS
There is something uniquely powerful about versatility. To be able to shapeshift and morph into someone new is something Juno Temple can do with ease. Equal parts energetic and effervescent, Juno Temple, who wears COMME des GARÇONS for her Schön! 46 digital cover story, has grown up on screen and has stolen scenes in the process. It’s clear her latest roles will, once again, prove just how many layers she has to herself as an actress. Noah Hawley, the creator of Fargo, had her in mind for the fifth edition of the show, just another person desperate to have Juno Temple grace their project. “I remember getting a call from my team saying they had sent the first three scripts of Fargo, and would I look at them because [creator/writer] Noah Hawley wants to talk to me,” she states. “I was like, “Oh. Oh my god. F*ck yeah!” Noah Hawley is so brilliant and so smart. It’s like going to a university and seeing your favourite lecture by your favourite lecturer and being front row and wanting to ask all the questions. I was nervous to talk to him, but I was beyond excited.” Despite not being a sporty person (“I did… Read more »

To celebrate the collaboration, Schön! speaks with Not Another Salon Director and Founder Sophia Hilton about hair trends, working with Coca-Cola, and more. What was your vision behind founding Not Another Salon, and how has it evolved since its inception? Our decor might be a bit attention-seeking… but there is more to it than that. When you are in our four walls we want you to be transported away from the outside world, into a safe place that feels away from the judgment of the outside world. Schön! 46 digital cover | dafne keen in Fendi + Pomellato
There’s power at Dafne Keen‘s fingertips. At just 19, she already crafted a filmography that includes the beloved show His Dark Materials and a role opposite Hugh Jackman in Logan. Now, she’s entertaining the franchise world with Star Wars: The Acolyte. Keen struts around the Palacio de los Duques, a Gran Melia Hotel in Madrid, Spain, in AGL as she talks to us for her Schön! 46 digital cover story. The actress was raised in Madrid and comes from a family of artists, she explains while wearing Fendi and Pomellato. “I always knew I was going to do something creative, but I never knew it was going to be acting.” Playing make-believe with her best friend, Vera, was the place where she first got a taste for acting — even if she didn’t know what exactly she was doing. They even started a theatre company called Las Graciosas (The Funny Ones). They would create costumes, write scripts and perform plays in front of their parents. Imaginary play was needed for her next role as a young Padawan learner in The Acolyte. The new Star Wars series is set at the end of the High Republic era, approximately 100 years before the original Star Wars… Read more »
Schön! 46 digital cover | marina correia wearing Pandora
It’s uncommon to find someone so young and self-aware, but Marina Correia embodies just that. The 2020 Longboard World Champion from Nice openly shares her journey for her Schön! 46 digital cover story, glittering in jewellery by Pandora and wearing The Frankie Shop. Born and raised in Cape Verde, she relocated to France as a teenager, finding solace in longboarding. This year, her journey comes full circle as she serves as an ambassador for Cape Verde in the upcoming Paris Olympics. “It’s amazing!” she exclaims. “I’m a woman, a skater; I was born there, not here. And now I’m representing Cape Verde, here in France.” Correia’s rise wasn’t part of a grand plan beyond her longboard tricks. Initially, she joined local competitions for fun and later participated in the 360 Longboard Open in Paris, finishing second. The pandemic in 2020 altered her path. The World Championship, usually held in The Netherlands, was conducted online that year. Before this, financial constraints had kept her from competing. “We sent a one-minute-long video to the judges. I got an email asking if I edited mine because they noticed I was fast, but that’s just my style,” she explains. She emerged as the World Champion… Read more »

This year, Fiskars turns 375. The renowned company has crafted designs and tools for everyday life — from the garden to the home — since 1649. It’s a feat that not many companies and brands can reach, speaking to Fiskars’ ability to continuously adapt — whether it be in technology or design — to create the best products for the globe. interview | kassius nelson
Inhabiting a role that straddles the line between the mundane and the mystical, Kassius Nelson is the perfect clairvoyant in Dead Boy Detectives. It’s a stark departure from her previous roles in projects like Last Night in Soho or A Series of Unfortunate Events, but it’s a testament to her versatility and undeniable screen presence. Drawing inspiration from the original DC comics by Neil Gaiman, the British actress breathes new life into Crystal Palace, the notorious psychic medium part of the Dead Boy Detectives’ world. Tormented by a demon, Crystal is finally freed by the charming ghost duo composed by Charles Rowland and Edwin Paine, albeit at the cost of her memories. Together, they form an agency dedicated to aiding fellow spirits in their journey to the afterlife, all while piecing together the fragments of Crystal’s forgotten past. Who is Crystal Palace, you ask? Picture her as the ultimate bridge between worlds. But beneath her enigmatic facade lies a young woman wrestling with her own demons — both figuratively and quite literally. Trust issues? Check. Pent-up emotions? Absolutely. Nelson captures every nuance of Crystal’s complex inner world, inviting audiences to join her on a rollercoaster ride of emotions as she navigates… Read more »

glitz + glamour | cannes film festival 24
Hollywood was out in full force at this year’s Cannes International Film Festival. The film that garnered the most attention from critics was Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis, an experimental sci-fi epic 40 years in the making with a $120 million budget. Adam Driver stars as Cesar Catalina, a priapic architect who can pause time and whose life’s mission is to construct a utopia from the dystopian. 11 days of the jam-packed festival resulted in the Jury of the 77th Festival de Cannes, led by American director, screenwriter, and actress Greta Gerwig, announcing the winners among the 22 films competing this year. But since it began in 1946, the Cannes Film Festival has been about more than just premiering exceptional films. The event is famous for its drama, especially on its legendary red carpet. A flurry of unanticipated — and iconic — fashion moments have occurred through the festival over the years, like Madonna’s bra and garter ensemble by Jean Paul Gaultier. And this year continued the tradition, with many stunning gowns gracing the cameras’ eager lenses. Now, let’s dive into the rest of the memorable celebrity appearances from the 77th Cannes Film Festival… Learn more about next year’s edition at festival-cannes.com.

interview | duy nguyen
All attention is turning to Duy Nguyen, a standout actor whose work in the critically acclaimed series The Sympathizer has garnered international acclaim. Originating from Vietnam, Duy has brought a rich narrative depth to his role, contributing to a series that challenges and redefines perspectives on historical conflicts. Opening up about the nuances of his performance, the impact of the series on his career, and the broader conversation about cultural representation it stimulates, Nguyen chats with Schön! about his experience on the set of The Sympathizer and exploring his approach to embodying a complex character within this ambitious adaptation. The Sympathizer deals with heavy themes from the Vietnam War. How did personal or collective histories influence your performance? I grew up decades after the war—about 20 years later, so I didn’t have firsthand knowledge of what actually happened during the conflict. Also, being from Hanoi, Vietnam, the way history is taught varies greatly depending on where you’re from. We were mainly taught how the North of Vietnam reunited the country, but nothing about what happened to the people in the South or what became of those who left. My first exposure to these perspectives came from reading The Sympathizer. Interestingly, my… Read more »

interview | janelle james
Abbott Elementary has become a sensation. Overnight, it has become one of the most successful comedies on television, launching the show into mainstream success. For Janelle James, it’s catapulted her into the limelight, a limelight that she still finds herself grappling with. Fame is all part and parcel of the hustle, but for James, it can be a weird and wild ride. Still, like everything else throughout her ‘coming up’ over the last ten years, James has taken everything in its stride. From comedy tours with the likes of Chris Rock to writing her comedy album, she set the stepping stones to her success, including (but certainly not limited to) an Emmy Award nomination, and an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Now, with Abbott Elementary about to start filming its fourth season, James reflects on all the work it’s taken to get here. She’s not surprised. When speaking with her, she’s quick with a joke, so naturally funny, you can’t help but be in awe. The role of Ava Coleman was made for her, and while the character has been criticized for being ‘one note,’ James brings a depth, that shows Ava to be… Read more »

This rally, coinciding with International Women’s Day, symbolizes the recent strides in women’s rights in Saudi Arabia, reflecting Geissler’s mission to empower women in motorsports. It’s been a chapter of power moves and finding her strength after spending her early career dealing with sponsors being more interested in her gender than her talent. To highlight this objectification, she collaborated with the design company Amsterdam Berlin in 2022, resulting in a Porsche, the LMG GT No.1, painted in her skin tone and marked with cosmetic surgery instructions. This project drew significant interest on social media, which she sought to monetize to gain financial independence. This led to the creation of LMG Racing Club, turning her car into an NFT available on OpenSea. “The NFT is like an entry ticket to me, as a person,” she explains. Buyers of the NFT, priced at $60 (0.03 ETC/Etherium), sponsor her career and gain exclusive access… Read more »

Glimmering in Cartier and dressed in Miu Miu for her Schön! 46 cover story, the German actress reflects on how her breakout in 2006’s Four Minutes has, somehow, embedded itself into her craft — so much so that she’s now revisiting the role in its sequel, 15 Years. The industry suddenly saw me as a serious actress, and I began receiving offers for more roles,” she recalls when asked to reflect on her first initiation into the film industry. Since then, she’s never stopped working. “I’m always preparing myself for a part and am constantly doing acting classes alongside a film’s shooting schedule.” The role as Jenny in Four Minutes required her to get into the mindset of a wrongfully convicted prisoner. After hearing about the chance to reprise her role as Jenny, it made sense for Herzsprung to jump in headfirst into 15 Years and to get on board as a co-producer. “Knowing what she’s experienced, where she comes from, and where she is now is quite powerful,” the actor explains. “To not give up, although she’s… Read more »
short but sweet | a tranquil hideaway in buckinghamshire
Buckinghamshire might not be the first place that comes to mind when thinking of a short weekend break, but the county does have its charms. You just have to know where to look. Among the vast woodlands and endless green hills lies a 17th-century secret hidden in the sleepy Buckinghamshire countryside. Nestled within the tranquil countryside (on a pathway that’s accessible only by car) is a lovely Georgian manor house—now a hotel—Burnham Beeches. Originally built in 1727 as a hunting lodge that afforded rest to royal hunting parties, the historic manor house now houses 79 rooms and suites, built with the purpose to provide a relaxing sanctuary for all city-tired Londoners. Moody, atmospheric and steeped in history, literary lovers might like to know that in 1737, the great English poet Thomas Gray is said to have visited his uncle who owned the house and (as the story goes) during his time there, was inspired to write his famous poem Elegy in a Country Churchyard. Whilst great poems might not be composed here nowadays, Burnham Beeches Hotel still maintains its old hunting lodge atmosphere and has a vibe that’s super relaxed, cosy and very, very British. It’s an Anglophile’s dream, with… Read more »
interview | hadassah emmerich
Renowned Dutch painter Hadassah Emmerich takes center stage as one of the most influential female artists of her generation, captivating audiences with her exuberant, sensual paintings that transcend traditional boundaries. Hadassah Emmerich’s artistic repertoire brims with exuberance, spanning paintings, collages, and murals that intricately meld stylized depictions of exotic fruits, body parts, and vegetal elements into bold, eroticized tapestries. Her oeuvre serves as a deeply immersive journey into the realms of body and identity, seamlessly navigating the intersections of the sensory and sensual while probing the complex landscape of desire, eroticism, and exoticism. The sensuality inherent in Emmerich’s work transcends mere surface aesthetics, manifesting in her meticulous use of colour and technical prowess. Since 2016, she has ventured into innovative painting techniques, utilizing stencils crafted from vinyl flooring. These stencils, bathed in ink, are then pressed onto canvas, paper, or even walls. Drawing inspiration from the visual lexicons of advertising and Pop art, Emmerich’s creations dissect the aestheticization of the female form. Through her imagery, she confronts the paradoxical interplay of attraction and repulsion, intimacy and detachment, seduction and critique. Schön! chats with Hadassah about her creative process and the provocative themes that fuel her groundbreaking art. In your artistic… Read more »

Family is everything for Aaron Altaras. The German actor speaks to us for his Schön! 46 digital cover story just as his star is on the rise. Wearing Valentino, he reflects on how, after honing his craft for over two decades and appearing in projects like Unorthodox and The Invisibles, he’s ready for the next chapter. With his latest role in The Zweiflers, which recently won several CANNESSERIES awards, that new chapter is unfolding. While discussing the significance of the show’s title, Altaras explains, “Zweiflers, which is a family name but also translates to ‘doubters’ in German, reflects the central themes of the series: uncertainty, introspection and the search for meaning. The Zweiflers is centred around family, identity and growing up, while highlighting the challenges that come with them.” Altaras grew up in a Jewish household, and even though he didn’t have a particularly religious upbringing, he feels a deep connection to his character. Samuel’s struggles resonate with him on a personal level, as he navigates similar challenges while getting older. On top of that, a portion of the series was filmed in the hospital where Altaras was born, which felt serendipitous and made his connection to Samuel even stronger. A true family… Read more »

Schön! 46 digital cover | nyjah huston in Louis Vuitton
Skateboarding is synonymous with individuality. It’s apt, then, that the sport attracted Nyjah Huston. The skateboarder, clothed in Louis Vuitton for his Schön! 46 digital cover, is looking ahead to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Naturally, Huston is skating towards gold. “The number one challenge is dealing with the nerves,” Huston shares. “We all want to make our people proud. When it comes down to it, that’s all you can do. Do your absolute best, prepare the best you can.” Although a sprained wrist and a torn ligament prevented him from participating in the 2020 Olympics, Huston feels more than ready now. While still training hard, the 13-time X Games gold medalist and six-time World Champion has made a choice to skate less in the streets. “Everyone has their own bag of tricks that they do and ways that they skate,” Huston explains. “It’s about finding those tricks, finding what works for you, and also mixing it up. It really has a lot to do with keeping an open mind. It’s not always about going out and doing the hardest tricks. It’s about having your own style and using the different spots to your own way.” Huston himself embodies this approach…. Read more »

Schön! 46 digital cover | sofie royer in CHANEL
A multi-dimensional artist with a globetrotting sense of style, Sofie Royer is ready for the world to hear her next chapter. Royer, who stuns in CHANEL for her Schön! 46 cover story, has just released her new single “Paris is burning,” the first single from her forthcoming third album. “There’s a liberating uncontrollability in my works,” says the self-taught artist. “With music, I sometimes have to fight against a notion of formality dating back to my childhood. That doesn’t exist for me with painting. It’s very honest and cathartic.” She resides in Vienna, but has ties to LA, New York, London, Paris and Austria either as a DJ, radio host, or digital manager. It was working for Stones Throw Records, though, that set everything in motion. Her first solo album Cult Survivor, released in 2020, marked the start of her own artist project. “This wasn’t a deliberate choice,” she says simply. “There was no alternative path for me.” Pulling from inspiration from other esteemed creatives, like French singer-songwriter Serge Gainsbourg and Italian director Tinto Brass, Royer feels compelled to weave her own artistic flair into her work. She’s been successful in both the music scene and the art world, and her… Read more »
