Madrid has long been home to the culture of la fiesta. The Spanish capital’s nightlife is one of the most bustling in Europe and for festival lovers, Mad Cool combines the city’s vibrant energy with an exciting lineup from 6 – 8 July. For 2023, the festival combines the classics with the contemporary. Crowds can enjoy the sounds of Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Prodigy and Liam Gallagher alongside names like Lizzo, Sam Smith and Lil Nas X. Diversity is the highlight of Mad Cool so here are Schön!’s suggestions of who you simply can’t miss.
Lizzo
Superstar Lizzo is a major headliner at Mad Cool this year and she’s not to be missed. Lizzo is known for her mega hits and instrumental talent as well as for interacting with her fans and spreading the positive message of self love. Her stage performances are always an intentionally immersive experience so if you’re looking to feel extra good under the Madrid sun, be sure to catch her set.
Rina Sawayama
One of the most innovative voices in pop right now and Schön! 34 star Rina Sawayama has been taking the festival circuit by storm and will be sure to bring all the theatre, showmanship and boldness that she’s known for to Mad Cool in July. Expect a passionate performance, a memorable stage look and dramatic flair.
M.I.A
Legend M.I.A. is the latest addition to the Mad Cool lineup, replacing former headliner Janelle Monáe. M.I.A’s discography is filled with pioneering sounds and crowd favourite classics that will be unmissable. It’s been a while since we’ve seen the artist headline a show so don’t miss the opportunity to get the full M.I.A experience.
King Princess
Schön! 38 cover star King Princess and her pop-infused rock and roll are a lesson in the art of stage presence. Her discography plays amazingly live and her magnetic performance style are sure to leave fans old and new in awe.
Raye
British singer-songwriter Raye was one of our rising star picks for 2023 and it’s safe to say that the multitalented artist is receiving her flowers this year. She has a busy tour schedule this year, having finished touring the UK with SZA. She’ll be playing her catchy pop hooks at Mad Cool next weekend and we recommend you hear her vocals live at least once!
Honey Dijon
Honey Dijon is also having a phenomenal year, especially since their monumental feature on Beyoncé’s instant classic of an album Renaissance. If Honey’s previous performances are anything to go by, festival goers can expect the very best of house and a setlist that will keep the crowd moving.
Tickets for Mad Cool festival 2023 are out now.
