Led by visionary artist Paul Adamah, Boko Yout has emerged as one of the genre’s most electrifying new forces — a riot of genre-melting sound, irreverent spirit, and raw charisma. Following a benchmark year, Boko Yout now unveils their long-awaited debut album, GUSTO, out now.

Raised in Örebro by a Togolese father and Mozambican mother, Adamah’s sound fuses diaspora rhythms with post-punk rebellion and pop experimentation. Conceived as a kind of sonic therapy, GUSTO follows Adamah’s alter ego, Mordecai, through surreal sessions with the enigmatic Dr. Gusto. Across thirteen tracks, humour and self-reflection collide with spiritual symbolism inspired by vodun traditions and Jungian philosophy. The result is a kaleidoscopic journey through chaos, catharsis, and creative rebirth.

For Adamah, it’s deeply personal: “‘GUSTO’ is about confronting my shadows — everything I try to avoid within myself,” he shares. “Shadows aren’t evil; they prove that light exists. This record is about meeting life with passion, enthusiasm, and intention.”

Boko Yout curates a special playlist for Schön! to celebrate the release of GUSTO.

If someone asked you what your origin story was, how would you describe it?

Abducted alien baby finds human vessel with Guitar Hero skills. The rest is history.

Describe your style in 3 words.

Punchy, eclectic, dramatic.

What is the most precious thing in your wardrobe?

Custom-made pants from neon yellow Ankara fabric. My dad bought them for me in Togo. I love African wax prints — they make me feel at home.

My friend Nils. A beefy, tattooed bear with a huge heart. Effortlessly cool. He’s also an amazing artist with a crazy track record.

What was the last book you read?

To the Friend Who Did Not Save My Life by Hervé Guibert. Truly heartbreaking.

If you could play any venue, which one would it be?

Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, any stage. This has been a dream of mine since I was 15. Now, I think it’s a matter of time (senpai, please notice us).

Where are you happiest?

At Lionel’s house, the guitarist in the band. His apartment is beautiful and it’s probably the calmest place I know. I love his family — he always plays the best music, and it feels holy to be surrounded by such spectacular interior design. I just love hanging out there.

Ideal 3-course meal?

Pan-fried dumplings with dipping sauce, bao buns with Korean fried chicken, and a deconstructed, soft and chewy apple crumble with vanilla sauce.

Macaulay Culkin. I don’t think I need to elaborate.
