Swathed in trademark black, Diane Pernet breezed into SoHo Grand’s Club Room with all the force of New York’s recent polar vortex. With a co-curated film festival on the very, very, immediate horizon, the globetrotting fashion flâneuse is indeed comparable to a force of nature.
Thursday’s cocktail reception–held in her honour–was a fitting kick-off to the U.S. premiere of the A Shaded View on Fashion Film Festival, which ran this weekend March 14-15th at the French Insititute Alliance Française in Manhattan.
Uncommonly chilly March weather was little deterrent to Diane’s many well- wishers. Dressed to the nines, they posed for photos and sipped specialty cocktails as DJ Becka Diamond set the mood with an eclectic mix that fell right in step with the diversity of the crowd.
A pitch-perfect accompaniment to the evening’s ambiance was the short fashion films projected onto the bar’s back wall. It was a clever, light-handed touch that provided a sense of immersion, and offered a preview of the treasures to be found at the film fest.
