Art is no longer either a spectator sport for us mere mortals in a gallery or exclusive to Russian Oligarchs in their homes. In recent years, art fairs have sprung up in London, and this weekend hails in the latest way to sample (and purchase) unique works in a medium that is truly having a moment.
The London Illustration Fair launches on November 29th and runs until December 1st in East London’s Hoxton Arches, playing host to some of the most exciting illustration talent out there. Exhibited artists were chosen from over 250 online applicants, and the final selection includes Spookernox, Ben Rothery, Sneaky Raccoon, Billy Daniel, Kev Munday, Yann Brien, Marina Capdevila, Lucille Clerc, Linocut Boy, Ursula Hitz, Matt Forster, Melody Seal, Masahito Takeuchi, Sarah Boris, Ali Hamish Campbell and Cassandra Yap, a line up curated by the fair founders Alastair Eland and Sam Bennett.
Looking to create an event that would cultivate and sustain illustrative talent, Eland and Bennet are hosting a weekend of music, food and of course art, with 100% of the price going straight back to the artist – an usual and refreshing feature of this fair.
Spend a few hours this weekend marvelling at what these artists can do with a humble Biro. The London Illustration Fair can be found at the Hoxton Arches, Arch 402, Cremer Street, London E2 8HD. 12-8pm Friday 29th and Saturday 30th November, 12-6pm Sunday 1st December.
