Travelling opens your mind to the world. It gets us out of our comfort zone by exposing us to things we don’t see in our daily lives, and expanding our perspectives, beliefs, and opinions. Seeing new places — whether it’s in your own city or across the world — broadens our worldview. Even our taste buds get to travel the world, trying new things just as we are.
As globetrotters, Schön! invites you to explore the unexpected flavours, textures, delicacies and more throughout the globe by exploring our tasting the world guide. In this third edition, dive into more dishes and restaurants in Mallorca.
This authentic Mallorquin bakery offers an array of sweet and savoury delights, as the Spanish tend to have pastries and coffee in the morning rather than a full on breakfast. This bakery is retail only, but have no fear because the cafes next door are more than accommodating to the baker’s clientele who wish to sit and eat immediately.
Schön!’s Tip = Best Ensaimada (pastry from Mallorca).

This place really is a little gem, just a short walk from Mercat Olivar, run by a fabulous couple, Chef Alfonso Delgado & Adela Paraita, who have really elevated the Mallorquin llonguet (sandwich on typical bread roll of Mallorca), to the next level. The house menu is purposely kept small and serves their classics, which affords them to create their superb daily specials of llonguets, soups, salads, quiches, cannelloni and fantastic desserts. The wine is straightforward, inexpensive and well-chosen.
Schön!’s Tip = Make sure you get there before 3 pm and be sure to order their homemade margaritas on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

La Rosa is easily one of the best tapas bars in the Balearics. The glory of La Rosa is its consistency and friendly + attentive staff. The kitchen is incredibly organized with its ability to send out good food in a timely fashion, especially in peak hours. The menu takes you through hot & cold tapas, seafood, meat, vegetables and all the fantastic canned goods that are simply delicious, as the Spanish are masters in this arena.
Vermouth-based cocktails, a great wine selection and interesting desserts are all part of its charm. You can drop in and have a couple of tapas or you can immerse yourself for hours in a full dining experience. The real bonus is that it is open all day and night.
Schön!’s Tip = Book if you want a table and their tortilla is the best in Spain.

The best-kept open secret in Palma with the vibe of a NY local and “local” being the operative word. It is located in the middle of everything and its hours are 7 am to 3 am, seven days a week which makes it a favourite for all walks of life. The Gibson serves decent cocktails at a decent price. It is the Cheers of Palma, and if you do not know the show Cheers… just Google it. The crowd ebbs and flows like the tide and it gets busy, but the staff here are fast behind the bar and equally proficient in delivery. There is a limited menu of llonguets to soak up the booze or pastries to go with your carajillo (coffee laced with liquor) in the morning.
Schön!’s Tip = Excellent Gibson Martinis and popcorn.

Arume Sake Bar is simply one of the most wonderful places in town. It is part of a Mallorquin family’s Japanese restaurant dynasty in Palma, which also consists of “Arume Tomeu Marti” which is more formal and “Arume Sushi Bar” in the Santa Catalina Market. Although Arume Sake Bar falls under Santa Catalina it is actually located outside the main hub, which means the location is even better.
From the moment you walk in here, to the moment you leave, you are welcomed by a team that keeps the vibe informal but the service impeccable. The music is great, the buzz is glorious, the food outlandishly good and finally a sushi bar with exceptional sake that ranges from extremely reasonable to the more sophisticated, plus they are knowledgable in this area, which is refreshing.
The menu here lends itself to sake and Japanese beer but also offers other beers and wine. They have cunningly developed a sake cocktail list to draw the stubborn non-sake drinkers into the fold. It is just simply fantastically relaxed and not fussy. Every element seamlessly comes together to give you a proper dining experience for lunch or dinner.
Schön!’s Tip = 3 people or less should sit at the bar and drink sake.

What makes this joint alluring is the fact that it only serves natural wines with an ever-changing innovative menu and the Swedish owner/sommelier, Lukas, actually knows what he is talking about.
Chef Diego runs the day-to-day kitchen operation which he keeps interesting at all times, they do however invite guest chefs to come and do a pop-up for a day which is fun and very clever marketing, as invariably the guest chefs tend to specialize in more diverse delicacies, that one doesn’t find on regular menus. The front of house is run by Lukas’ wonderful Scottish girlfriend Trea, who keeps the boat on an even keel. This place is part of the new epicurean movement in Mallorca.
Bar La Sang is set in a great location with wonderful aesthetics and is always buzzing. The wine selection is one of the best natural wine lists one has ever seen, with finds from far and wide. This takes a great deal of time, research, knowledge and passion and the food never disappoints.
Schön!’s Tip = They sell wine to-go at a cheaper rate, so if you find something you like buy it, as you will not find it anywhere else!

The Brassclub is more of a mixologist bar and they do it well. It is stylish with very good service and even as the crowd builds, they keep the drinks consistently flowing along with a great bar menu to keep you going.
Schön!’s Tip = Go Thirsty!
