Gold is famously terrible at compromising. It is hard, cold and it generally likes to stay exactly where you put it. So, the fact that Chanel has spent the last few years trying to make 18-karat gold behave like a piece of soft jersey fabric is actually quite a wild ambition. But here we are in 2026, and the Coco Crush collection has officially loosened up.

Since its debut in 2015, the line has been translating the House’s famous ‘matelassé’ (quilted) pattern, usually featured on the iconic 2.55 handbag, into jewellery. Until now, it has been very architectural: the rings clicked and the bangles stacked with a satisfying clatter, but the aesthetic was undeniably static. This season, however, the Chanel Fine Jewellery Creation Studio has pulled off a rather brilliant bit of engineering.

The accompanying campaign is led by a cast that understands this shift perfectly. Jennie of Blackpink makes her return as the undeniable queen of the double-C. Having been a House ambassador since 2017 and the face of Coco Crush since 2022, she has practically grown up in the archives. She is joined by the American singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams, who has spent the last year dominating Spotify playlists with her confessional pop, bringing a lived-in quality to the campaign that contrasts beautifully with the pristine metal. Mona Tougaard and Akon Changkou round out the group as Chanel’s familiar runway faces.

This new line focuses on ‘suppleness,’ a language through which jewellery emerges in its most fluid form. Through a clever bit of engineering involving a mesh-like construction and sliding clasps, the latest necklaces and chokers manage to drape against the skin with a liquid weight. The metal has been taught to yield. Available in the House’s signature Beige Gold, as well as yellow and white gold with diamonds, these pieces trace a glowing line that refuses to stay still, shifting and settling with every turn of the head.

The ear game has received an equally fluid update with the introduction of transformable earrings. In their long version, they offer a sophisticated, swaying drop that feels ready for a gala. However, a quick adjustment allows them to be worn as short, punchy studs for a sharper, more ‘rock’n’roll’ attitude.

For those who still crave the satisfying heft of the original design, the new cuff serves as the collection’s brutalist anchor. Sculpted in Beige Gold, it takes the familiar cross-hatch incisions and deepens them, offering a wide, graphic band that feels like a piece of modern armour.
