Spain’s most iconic festival Primavera Sound took over sunny Barcelona this weekend. Showcasing names like Depeche Mode, Rosalía, Fred Again and Kendrick Lamar, the city was the perfect backdrop to feast on good music. Barcelona has always been the beating heart of creativity in Spain, so it makes sense that for the second year in a row, the festival partnered with automobile innovator CUPRA to provide some of the most exciting live music experiences of the summer.
When it comes to the line-up, variety was in abundance. Depeche Mode drew in a huge crowd of elated fans while newcomers Maneskin had a magnetic grip over their audience with their rock star stage presence. Skrillex played a set so hot that part of his stage briefly caught on fire before he returned to take fans on a journey through all his eras from Pop to Dubstep.
The CUPRA stage was home to some of the most refreshing voices of the moment. Standout acts included award-winning producer Nia Archives who played a vibrant mix of Drum and Bass and Jungle music. While London rapper Loyle Carner played a heartfelt set of smooth jazz-infused rap. CUPRA and Boiler Room’s circular space was also a Primavera Sound must-see with a non-stop rotation of exciting DJs like Mura Masa and La Creole playing an eclectic blend of genres from Amapiano to Deep House. It was a fitting reflection of CUPRA’s support for the shining voices of the underground scene and an unmissable stop on the Primavera Sound experience.
Acts that left everyone blown away were big names like Kendrick Lamar who played a medley of crowd favourites with delivery that sounded just as powerful as his studio recordings. Motomami star and CUPRA collaborator Rosalía gave a masterclass in the art of performance, playing to a packed crowd in her hometown. Her vocals were impeccable and her choreography was impactfully brilliant. If you, too, are looking to get a taste of Primavera Sound, the festival will also take place in the Spanish capital Madrid from 8 – 11 June 2023.
Alongside a weekend of the best in music, CUPRA provided a truly novel crossover between the worlds of gaming and racing: the exponential experience. First launched in Berlin, drivers had the opportunity to virtually speed through the streets of Berlin and Barcelona wearing a VR headset to feel the experience of racing an electric car. The CUPRA UrbanRebel concept car is both a thrilling and exciting insight into the potential of using technology to make fantasy come to life and is testament to Barcelona’s infectiously pioneering spirit.
