Laura-Marie Geissler is championing independence for women in motorsports. Geissler, who wears ILIA Beauty and Saint Laurent at YOOX for her Schön! 46digital cover story, has just arrived in Berlin after recently participating in the Rally Jameel in Saudi Arabia where she secured first place in her class. This rally, coinciding with International Women’s Day, symbolizes the recent strides in women’s rights in Saudi Arabia, reflecting Geissler’s mission to empower women in motorsports. It’s been a chapter of power moves and finding her strength after spending her early career dealing with sponsors being more interested in her gender than her talent.
To highlight this objectification, she collaborated with the design company Amsterdam Berlin in 2022, resulting in a Porsche, the LMG GT No.1, painted in her skin tone and marked with cosmetic surgery instructions. This project drew significant interest on social media, which she sought to monetize to gain financial independence. This led to the creation of LMG Racing Club, turning her car into an NFT available on OpenSea. “The NFT is like an entry ticket to me, as a person,” she explains. Buyers of the NFT, priced at $60 (0.03 ETC/Etherium), sponsor her career and gain exclusive access to Meet & Greets, signed cards, and in-car video material. While this approach may seem to perpetuate objectification, Geissler emphasizes that the control she maintains over this exchange makes her feel valued for her achievements rather than objectified.
By leveraging LMG as a person, brand, and racing club, Geissler reclaims ownership of her name and car, challenging traditional sponsorship models. She critiques the outdated sponsorship approach in motorsports, advocating for more innovative and effective funding methods. Her vision has gained significant attention, landing her and LMG Racing Club on Forbes DA’s 30-under-30 list in 2023. Her first car has since been replaced by the LMG GT No.2, a dark Porsche with the slogan ‘Race Your Voice’ and a leather harness design. This vehicle, also converted into 718 limited-edition NFTs, secures funding for her diverse projects as a driver and entrepreneur. Notably, she is developing a line of FIA-certified fireproof underwear for women, addressing an often-overlooked aspect of motorsports and highlighting her commitment to industry innovation.
