Sukii Baby is an artist, gamer, and all-around innovator who’s been creating her own lane since high school — dropping 3D animations, coding tricks, and self-shot photoshoots before it was cool. Blending her Japanese and African American heritage with Houston grit, she’s built a style that’s bold, playful, and impossible to ignore. From custom grills and creative photoshoots to Twitch streams and a thriving Discord family, Sukii thrives on doing what others are too scared to try. With a car build and grillz collection on the way, she’s only getting louder, prouder, and more unstoppable.

Schön! chats with Sukii to discuss her career so far, her upcoming projects, and more.

What inspired you to start creating and sharing your work online?

As an artist, you start lots of projects with the thought of “no one has done this before,” or to shine light in spaces that aren’t usually in the forefront of praise. I’ve had supporters since high school, and the more they kept up with me, the more I’d share. Eventually, I started posting nonstop — 3D animations, coding tricks & tips, and self-directed photoshoots while I was still in high school.

Being on YouTube, I was definitely made fun of for being “overly creative” by my peers, but that only made me want to post more. I always had ideas, but once I was finally able to execute consistently, I fell into the mindset of wanting to do anything people were too scared to do. That’s how I grew my community simultaneously — within my city and online.

How does your Japanese and African American background influence your style?

How does it not! I have strong parents who always encouraged my weirdness, even if they didn’t understand it. Growing up, being asked the same questions by people who weren’t well-travelled made me want to fully embrace myself and teach folks about where I’m from.

On one hand, I was the only half-Black kid in my city in Japan. In America, no one believed I was Japanese until I grew into my face more — or until they saw me on the phone with my mom. So I went through extreme discrimination, and that pushed me to embody what you see of me today: a Southwest baby.

You’ve gained attention for your creative photoshoots and grill design—what draws you to those mediums?

Honestly, I just like to have fun. I love to put Easter eggs in everything I do, like an ongoing game. Showing myself in different lights is really important for how I express myself. On top of that, I’m somewhat of a history nerd, and I love reintroducing parts of history that might’ve been lost or forgotten.

What role does Houston play in your identity as a creator?

H-Town is my rock. You really gotta have tough skin to live in Houston, and if you don’t, you’ll grow it soon enough. Baby, you’ll learn how to build a house, fix a car, fight, and cook correctly because you will be criticized for bad food, etc. There’s a long list of things that test if you’re really built for it or not.

When I lived with my dad, he made me learn everything I possibly could against my will—from wiring computers to safely arming/disarming weapons to protect myself when I had to be alone. He was terrified I’d grow up to be an airhead, so I definitely didn’t grow up like my more feminine peers or cousins. But now that I’m older, I’m grateful to be a well-rounded adult.

What do you love most about streaming on Twitch?

I literally just love my supporters. They make me laugh without even trying, and knowing they’re here because they rock with me — and will leave learning something new — feels so good.

I’ve been streaming for almost 6 years now, and my answer would’ve been the same back then. I consider myself an old-gen streamer, back when only god-tier gamers were praised. Things are extremely different now, and I appreciate the respect and grace my community gives me and also how they remember the little things about me. Without community, nothing you do outside of yourself matters.

How is your Discord community different from your other platforms?

Boy, I whooped them into shape. I worked really hard to make it a safe, uplifting community. Since my Discord is overly nerdy, anyone who doesn’t understand — we educate, not argue.

It’s very controlled because a lot of people don’t have safe places to be themselves or learn something new. You might as well find a new hobby here and be somewhere you feel loved and celebrated! We play video games, celebrate birthdays — it’s just a big family. The community being so expressive, patient, and kind to each other makes me feel like a proud mama. They’re all my babies. I love them.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a creative?

Don’t laugh, but it’s honestly my face. When you’re trying to get things done or work with others, I feel like, because I look so different from what people are used to seeing in their everyday life, a lot of people overlook me. They know nothing about me, but they just assume I’m rich. I don’t even own a Louis Vuitton or Chanel bag.

I broke so many barriers in multiple creative fields alone, at a young age, whether people liked it or not. And with that, I experienced a lot of xenophobia. At times, I felt like if I stopped showing my face, my work would shine more. But then I remember — being perceived and rejected is just another way of being guided to who and where you need to be.

I recently met a dentist who is one out of only 38 in his specialty, and we’re putting out our first project together very soon. It’ll be open to the public. Challenges are different for everyone — you just have to be strong and know which way you want to go.

Who are some of your biggest inspirations?

My dreams while I sleep, and my parents. Stability means everything to me — that’s real inspiration. That’s what I’m working toward: becoming a household name for myself. I don’t put people I don’t know on randomly high pedestals, and I don’t do well with posers. I live in real life, and the things that shape me and inspire me are my own chaotic reality.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to express themselves creatively online?

You gotta get the f*ck over yourself. If you don’t do it, someone will steal what you started. So be yourself. Be bold. Be kunty. And show ‘em why you’re here to stay. 10 toes, baby.

What can your fans look forward to next from Sukii Baby?

We go VROOM VROOM! I’m starting my first car build from scratch — yes, a car from scratch. I’m tryna teach women how to pimp their rides. I’ll definitely be hosting more car shows. Also — wink wink — I’ll be releasing a grillz collection this year. That’s all the surprises I’m giving out for now. So buckle up, and don’t forget to come join us on Twitch from time to time. Don’t be a stranger.
