The 29th edition of the International Festival of Fashion and Photography at Hyères announced its 2014 fashion jury, and it is per usual, filled with creative titans. The eight-person panel consists of: Maurizio Cattelan, contemporary artist; Pamela Goblin, general curator for fashion and textile at Les Arts Decoratifs; Spike Jonze, film director; Jay Massacret, fashion director of V and Vman; Jaime Perlman, creative director at British Vogue; Chloé Sevigny, actress; Carol Song, head buyer at Opening Ceremony, and Eric Wilson, fashion news director at InStyle America. Because every group needs a leader, or two, presiding this year are KENZO creative directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon.
Jury members met in Paris this January to select which 10 designers – of 322 applications from 55 countries – would show their collections at Villa Noailles, where the festival takes place.
Here are the talented young designers selected: in womenswear; Yulia Yefimtchuk, Liselore Frowijn, Louis-Gabriel Nouchi, Marit Ilison, Kenta Matsushige, Coralie Marabelle, and Roshi Porkar. In menswear: Anne Kluytenaar, Pablo Henrard, and Agnese Narnicka.
Founded 29 years ago by Jean-Pierre Blanc, Hyères has become a springboard for young talent, and an anomaly in the realm of fashion event conventions. Here luxury brand CEOs and listless fashionistas mingle with people from all disciplines and backgrounds. Blame the balmy southeast France air or the hilly terrain – a natural enemy to high heels – either way, a wonderfully laid back attitude permeates this festival.
The 29th edition of the International Festival of Fashion and Photography at Hyères will be taking place April 25th-28th with exhibitions open until May 25th.
