For anyone who spent their formative years obsessively reading Ai Yazawa’s ‘NANA,’ building a personality around its two heroines and dreaming of that impossible-to-find Armour Ring, your ultimate fashion fantasy has just become canon.
Vivienne Westwood is celebrating the cult manga’s 25th anniversary with an official capsule collection, and it’s the full-circle moment a generation of fans has been waiting for.
For 25 years, the link between the series and the brand has been an article of faith. Nana Osaki, with her red tartan, orb lighter and tough-as-nails corsetry, was a walking, smoking, guitar-playing homage to the godmother of punk. Now, in partnership with VIZ Media, the brand is finally making it official, diving deep into the archives to reissue the exact styles illustrated by Yazawa.
The entire capsule is brilliantly split, playing on the two personalities of its heroines. You can go full Nana Komatsu (Hachi) with the “ultra-feminine” pieces, including pastel pinks, pearl jewellery and the Mini Sunday Dress in light poplin, delicately overprinted with a hand-drawn tartan.
Or, you can (and this is what many are here for) go full Nana Osaki with the Stormy Jacket in bold red Lochcarron tartan (a reissue from the legendary AW 1996/97 ‘Storm In A Teacup’ collection), matching Mini Kilts and Cigarette Trousers and, of course, corsetry.

But the true heart of this collaboration lies in the accessories. The archival Rocking Horse Ballerina platform, first seen in the AW 1987/88 ‘Harris Tweed’ collection, returns in red Lochcarron tartan – and an exclusive-to-Asia pink metallic leather. Westwood’s punk edge is all over the Charm Frame Purse in black scribble tartan. Balancing both worlds are classic T-shirts in deep navy or hot pink, printed with a celestial ‘Westwood Galaxy’ print.
The jewellery, illustrated by Yazawa for decades, is finally official. A Nana Pearl Necklace perfectly fuses the two characters, mixing oversized baroque pearls with a silver-plated industrial cable chain. The iconic Armour Ring is re-released as the Nana Armour Ring with new black enamel plating.
And for the ultimate collector’s item, the one fans have waited 25 years for: the Giant Orb Lighter. Glistening with crystals and engraved with a unique edition number, the orb hangs from a beaded, gold-tone chain and is limited to just 250 units globally.
To complete the celebration, a deluxe omnibus NANA 25th Anniversary Edition Vol. 1 is being released, featuring a brand new cover illustration by Ai Yazawa showing both Nanas in their collaborative finery.
The Vivienne Westwood x NANA collection is available now in boutiques and online.
