The origin story of the Reverso, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s most iconic timepiece, is a classic tale of high-society sport and sharp Swiss ingenuity, born on the polo fields of 1930s India. It is a legend steeped in Western, Art Deco history. Now, nearly a century later, this very story is being completely reimagined through one of the most modern, Eastern-influenced formats possible: a vertical-scrolling webcomic.
This unique fusion is the latest project from Jaeger-LeCoultre’s ‘Made of Makers’ programme, an initiative that connects the meticulous world of haute horlogerie with artists from entirely different disciplines. For this commission, the Maison has collaborated with the rising Filipino webcomic designer Olivecoat to retell the Reverso’s genesis for a new, digital-native generation.

Based in Cebu, Philippines, Olivecoat is a self-taught talent who came to the art form after a decade as a successful interior designer. Her work is celebrated for its blend of imaginative narratives, a distinctive pastel palette and a focus on tender, authentic character dynamics. For her, storytelling is a way to find universal truths. “I love watching shows where the character dynamics feel fleshed out, like real humans rather than characters on a page, and I think that’s what drives me,” Olivecoat explains. “I’m always reading feedback about how I connect with readers and make them feel seen. Comments like: ‘Oh, I didn’t think this was a universal experience, but it touched me deeply.’ That really motivates me as a creator.”
Her webcomic, titled REVERSO, is an “archive-inspired fictional narrative” that dramatises the watch’s creation, bringing its key figures – the visionary entrepreneur César de Trey and the master watchmaker Jacques-David LeCoultre – to life. The story transports audiences from the polo fields of India, where the innovative reversible case was first conceptualised, to the renowned workshops of Le Sentier. By using a graphic style influenced by manga and webtoons, Olivecoat provides a distinctly Eastern lens on a Western tale, proving that comics, or the ‘9th Art,’ are a constantly evolving and serious art form.
This celebration of contemporary craft is the core mission of the ‘Made of Makers’ programme, which has previously included chefs, musicians and perfumers. “We are delighted to collaborate with The Webcomic Designer Olivecoat,” says Jérôme Lambert, CEO of Jaeger-LeCoultre. “She is a perfect fit […] as she brings instinctive, self-taught mastery to her craft, reimagining classical techniques through a contemporary lens. Her commitment to timeless aesthetics and refined storytelling resonates deeply with our values.”
The REVERSO webcomic is now available online for the public, with a special printed book version being offered to select clients and collectors.
