What if fragrance could be seen as vividly as it’s smelled? LOEWE Perfumes has taken that question seriously, inviting Spanish visual artist Ignasi Monreal to transform five iconic candles from their Home Scents collection into a series of captivating illustrations and short films.
Each creation is a lush interplay of colour, texture, and symbolism: Monreal’s Beetroot image, for instance, uses curling wisps of candle smoke to trace LOEWE’s signature Anagram; Ivy is a lush green cascade, Marihuana is mirrored in twin imagery, Oregano pools like molten wax, and a ripe tomato floats dramatically against a red-hued canvas.
Born in Barcelona and now dividing his time between Madrid and Rome, Monreal’s work blends classical art traditions with digital precision — a style that perfectly echoes LOEWE’s sensory storytelling ethos. But the magic doesn’t end with imagery. Alongside the visuals, intimate behind-the-scenes films reveal how Monreal perceives scent and translates it into dreamlike imagery.
For context, LOEWE Home Scents draws on a surprisingly vast botanical palette. The house reportedly narrowed 60 fragrant plants down to eleven signature scents (these five among them), each available as sensual candles, diffusers, and room sprays. Tomato Leaves, for example, evokes the intense green aroma of vine leaves at the cusp of ripening.
Together, LOEWE and Monreal have crafted a multi-sensory world where the scent of a candle becomes a story in paint, and the image invites you to inhale. It’s art that you look at and revisit with your nose, a uniquely LOEWE type of alchemy.
