day-to-night | stella mccartney winter 2025

Delving into the versatility of clothing, Stella McCartney’s winter 2025 collection, titled ‘Laptop to Lapdance’ explores day-to-night dressing. Wanting to design for the working woman, where she could easily transition from her conventional office attire to her true self at night, the collection sits on the border of femininity and masculinity. Another thing it does, though, is transport viewers through time, touching on McCartney’s key design moments and heritage.

This season, the Stella woman is the boss. Models strutted around STELLACORP – “an imagined material innovation company pioneering vegan alternatives to exotic skins”, according to show notes, set in a Parisian high-rise – exuding sexuality, sensuality, and strength.

Mainstay styles – oversized double-breasted jackets, cinched mini dresses, and draped numbers all with emphasized padded shoulders – were paired with chaps made from YATAY M, a mycelium-based vegan alternative to python and ostrich. Open button-up shirts peeked out from crisp blazers and baggy wide-leg trousers reminiscent of the 80s, lipstick red dresses draped over the body, providing a pop of colour against the neutral colour palette, and fitted long-sleeve lace midi dresses with a corset underneath nodded to McCartney’s Central Saint Martins graduation show.

To really emphasize the ‘lapdance’ aspect of the collection, a crystal-fringed plunging bodysuit and structured mini dress with Sequinova plant-based sequins cascading down the frame were introduced alongside the more conservative looks.

Combining her commitment to conscious and cruelty-free innovations with 80s silhouettes made contemporary, McCartney’s ready-to-wear showing felt rebellious and playful.
