For AW17, Kai Dunkel has once more given rise to interdisciplinary work with its HOROS menswear collection. Not only applicable to the clothing, which combines innovative cuts with the contrasting of fabrics and materials, but also to innovation within media-forms. For each collection, Kai Dunkel produces award-winning fashion films starring at the forefront of the inspiration behind the brand.
Their vision is to anticipate the future. As such, they experiment and implement various scientific approaches when creating the collection, fashioning urban styles that move beyond our current time and space. The brand prides itself for this creative process, their designs being of an exalted nature: strong, bold, singular and yet, practical. The aesthetic for this season’s collection is long and entangled, winding but unified. Lens masks open up new gateways into untold stories, and white fabrics speak for the innocence and inexperience of humanity within this new realm. Ultimately, our salvation and total control come with the nonpareil form and organisation of the ‘hand of transformation’, black seemingly indestructible fabrics, unilluminated and yet comforting in the unexplored world of HOROS.
Combined with the captivating videos produced with each collection, Kai Dunkel attempts to expand the cosmos in which we understand fashion and our world.
HOROS leads the audience into an underworld, difficult to label and tricky to decode. HOROS transcends our world and finds comfort in newly shaped forms and structures, where vulnerability and unfamiliarity meet confidence and ability.
