havaianas | gigi hadid joins as global ambassador

Flip-flops are having a major fashion renaissance, and Havaianas is leading the charge by appointing Gigi Hadid as its new global ambassador. What began in 1962 as a simple, rubber sandal inspired by traditional Japanese zori has grown into a global phenomenon. Originally worn by Brazilian workers for their durability and comfort, Havaianas quickly became a staple of laid-back summer dressing, celebrated for their easygoing appeal and signature rice-textured soles. Now, they’re making their mark in high fashion, proving that flip-flops are no longer just for the beach.

Gigi Hadid, known for her effortless, off-duty style, is the perfect fit for this next chapter. “Being a Havaianas ambassador is surreal and a bit nostalgic,” she says. “I grew up on the beach and can’t remember a time when I wasn’t wearing this summer staple. I love that Havaianas is making a comeback, and I’ll make flip-flops work from Paris to New York to the beach.” With her ability to seamlessly mix casual and luxury, Hadid embodies the spirit of Havaianas — simple, stylish, and endlessly versatile.

The supermodel will front multiple campaigns, spotlighting some of the brand’s most iconic designs, including the Slim Point and Brazil Logo flip-flops. Shot in a series of striking visuals, the campaign reinforces the timeless appeal of these styles, showing how they transition from sandy shores to city streets.

Havaianas has long been a pioneer of modern flip-flops, blending comfort with the unmistakable Brazilian attitude. Once considered a practical essential, their designs have since become a fashion statement, embraced by designers, celebrities, and street-style stars alike. “Flip-flops have evolved from humble beginnings into a celebrated fashion statement,” says Maria Fernanda Albuquerque, Global Marketing Vice-President for Havaianas. “With Gigi’s endorsement, we aim to elevate them to new heights of style and recognition.”

The Slim Point and Brazil Logo models worn by Hadid in the campaign are available now online and in Havaianas stores worldwide.
