historiques 222 | 270 years of vacheron constantin

To speak of Vacheron Constantin is to recount a tale spanning 270 years — a saga of precision, artistry, and boundless imagination. For 2025, the Maison marks its anniversary celebrations with a standout release: a reissue of the stainless steel Historiques 222, a tribute to the iconic 1977 model that redefined luxury sports watch design. Sleek, understated, and masterfully crafted, it bridges past and present with effortless elegance. “The 222 is a legendary timepiece and greatly appreciated by collectors — not least because its initial production run in the late 1970s was very limited,” shares Alexandra Vogler, Vacheron Constantin’s Chief Marketing Officer.

Founded in 1755 by Jean-Marc Vacheron, whose apprenticeship in Geneva laid the foundation for centuries of innovation, the brand has been guided by the philosophy: “Do better if possible, and that is always possible.” This relentless spirit continues to drive its groundbreaking creations.

Known for its technical mastery and artistic brilliance, Vacheron Constantin has shaped horological history with intricate complications and designs coveted by collectors. The Maison’s pioneering milestones include introducing interchangeable watch parts in 1839 and crafting bespoke timepieces for royalty, such as King Fouad I of Egypt. Today’s triumphs, like the Les Cabinotiers The Berkley Grand Complication unveiled in 2024 — boasting an astonishing 63 complications — reaffirm its supremacy in horological complexity and beauty. Christian Selmoni, Style & Heritage Director, frames these anniversary milestones as a celebration of “a philosophy that blends mechanical innovation with a deep-rooted devotion to craftsmanship and a stylistic vision both progressive and classically refined.”

Today’s Maison not only honours its past but also embraces creative collaborations and forward-thinking craftsmanship, ensuring its position at the forefront of watchmaking. As the year unfolds, expect more timepieces that celebrate tradition while embracing the possibilities of the future — proving once again that true mastery stands the test of time.
