In continuation of Veuve Clicquot‘s commitment to culture, following successful exhibitions in Tokyo, Los Angeles, and London in 2022 and 2023, the renowned champagne house collaborates this year with Magnum Photos, a prestigious agency founded in 1947 by photographers Robert Capa and Henri Cartier-Bresson. Together they unveil the travelling photographic exhibition “Emotions of the Sun” centred around the theme of the sun. This luminous ethos, named Solaire, pays homage to Madame Clicquot’s adventurous spirit, her optimism, and her forward-thinking approach to the future.
Eight Magnum photographers present their unique interpretations of “Emotions of the Sun,” exploring the profound connection between artists and light—particularly sunlight, an endless source of inspiration fundamental to photography. The sun, symbolizing life, hope, and yearning, offers a vast range of emotions that these photographers capture and convey.
“Maison Veuve Clicquot is delighted to collaborate with eight globally renowned Magnum photographers, embodying the essence of this esteemed photographic institution,” states Jean-Marc Gallot, President of Veuve Clicquot. “This exhibition reaffirms our deep-seated cultural commitment and shares our message of optimism with the world.”
This partnership marks a significant chapter for Veuve Clicquot, teaming up with the esteemed Magnum Photos agency for the first time. The exhibition features works by Steve McCurry, Alex Webb, Trent Parke, Olivia Arthur, Lindokuhle Sobekwa, Cristina de Middel, Nanna Heitmann, and Newsha Tavakolian, who have simultaneously captured unforgettable moments across five continents in eight different countries. These 40 stunning photographs portray the sun in an extraordinary spectrum of emotions, shapes, and colours.
Design Week in Milan serves as the debut venue for the exhibition. In recent years, Veuve Clicquot has refined its expertise in design excellence, becoming a leader in innovative, environmentally friendly, award-winning packaging. After participating in Milan Design Week 2023 alongside renowned Italian artist Paola Paronetto, Veuve Clicquot returns in 2024 to showcase the “Emotions of the Sun” exhibition in collaboration with Magnum Photos at the heart of Milan’s Garden Senato. The exhibition is accompanied by an exceptional culinary experience featuring dishes specially crafted by star chefs and emerging gastronomic talents, inspired by the sun and paired with Veuve Clicquot champagne. During Milan Design Week, visitors can symbolically experience the sun on a plate, enjoying signature dishes paired with selected cuvées from Veuve Clicquot.
The travelling exhibition “Emotions of the Sun” by Veuve Clicquot and Magnum Photos premieres at Milan Design Week from April 16 to April 21, 2024, at Garden Senato, Via Senato, 14, 20121 Milan, Italy.
