Dior made a bold statement at Paris Fashion Week with its Fall/Winter 2025 show, captivating audiences through an elaborate, theatrical set complete with a swooping prehistoric bird and a mannequin on a swing. Now, the French fashion house is taking that same spectacle eastward — to Japan. The presentation will be held at Kyoto’s historic Tō-ji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back to the year 796. Known for its iconic five-storey pagoda and tranquil gardens, the temple will serve as the dramatic backdrop where Dior’s creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, is set to unveil the collection.

“Since the founding of the Maison, Christian Dior and his successors have fostered numerous ties with Japan,” explains Chiuri. “These include collaborations with local manufacturers and commercial partners, such as department stores, with the first Dior boutique in Japan being opened in 1971 in the Ginza district of Tokyo. This led to the various presentations of Dior collections in Japan throughout the years. The same year, in fact, Dior collections were presented in Tokyo, at the New Otani, in Osaka and in Geihinkan. In the archives of Dior Heritage, a series of photographs from 1971 reveals the fruitful creative dialog between the designs of Marc Bohan and contemporary Japanese theater during a performance in Tokyo. I am so excited for the presentation of the @dior Fall 2025 collection in Kyoto, renewing the long historical ties of the Maison with Japan.”
