American actress Kirsten Dunst and Los Angeles-based illustrator Jessica Neuman Herschko are taking their playful design universe into new territory. The longtime friends and co-founders of Observed by Us – the Los Angeles-based brand they launched in 2020 – have teamed up with Italian shoemakers AGL for an exclusive footwear capsule that celebrates youth, nostalgia, and the magic of everyday creativity.
The collaboration unites two worlds: Dunst and Herschko’s whimsical, hand-illustrated aesthetic with the artisanal craftsmanship of AGL, a multigenerational, women-led company founded in 1958 by Piero Giusti and now run by sisters Vera, Sara, and Marianna Giusti. Together, they’ve reimagined five of AGL’s best-selling silhouettes – a 5 cm heeled bootie, a lace-up shoe with a natural rubber sole, a ballet flat, a loafer, and a sneaker – each finished with hand-embroidered details designed in Los Angeles and brought to life in AGL’s workshops in Italy.
“We are so excited to be working with AGL and to collaborate on this capsule collection that we hope evokes feelings of youth, beauty, and nostalgia,” Dunst and Herschko said of the project. “All the women involved brought their unique sensibilities to make it come alive.”
For AGL, the partnership felt equally natural. “We are thrilled to collaborate with two extraordinary women like Kirsten and Jessica, with whom we share much more than one might imagine: exceptional women, hard workers, mothers, multitaskers, full of life and creativity — just like us,” the Giusti sisters shared. “We are always ready to open the doors of our style office when it comes to working with minds and hearts to create products designed, developed, and made by women for women.”
The capsule mirrors the spirit of Observed by Us, where childlike curiosity fuses with craftsmanship. Friends for over two decades, Dunst and Herschko share a love of vintage music, textiles, photography, and fashion, and their illustrations – often playful, sometimes surreal – capture the world through an enchanted, storybook lens. That visual language now threads through AGL’s signature designs, merging Los Angeles creativity with Italian precision.
Dunst and Herschko star in the campaign, both wearing the loafer from the collection. And with every step, the collaboration gives back: a portion of proceeds supports the Lega del Filo d’Oro ETS Foundation, which works with people with sensory disabilities.
