“The Swarovski crystals are a creative superpower for me.”

That’s Jeremy Scott, the fashion visionary who’s dressed everyone from Madonna to Beyoncé, explaining the sheer, dazzling scale of his latest project. On October 9th, the Friedrichstadt-Palast launched its new £11.9 million (approx. €14 million) Grand Show, ‘Blinded by Delight,’ but the real headline was the 500 costumes Scott designed, all brought to radiant life with millions of Swarovski crystals.

Scott, who recently stepped away from his decade shaping Moschino, has moved his audacious, pop-culture-infused aesthetic from the runway to the world’s largest theatre stage. The show’s sheer scale and extravagant budget perfectly match his ‘more is more’ philosophy.

The project, however, was born from a surprisingly personal pitch. Director Oliver Hoppmann travelled to Los Angeles with a script that resonated deeply with the designer. “He told me the show was written for me – with my aesthetic, my work, even parts of my biography in mind. I couldn’t say no. I felt seen – not as a brand, but as a person,” Scott shared. This emotional connection fuelled a collection where fashion became glittering storytelling.

This personal passion is visible in the details (and the sparkle). The Palast’s legendary 32-piece Kickline, the ultimate emblem of the revue, shimmered thanks to being encrusted with over 4 million Swarovski crystals. The spectacle also resurrected fashion history, featuring meticulous duplicate recreations of the iconic candlestick dress Scott originally designed for Katy Perry’s 2019 MET Gala.

Scott, who attended the premiere with supermodel Heidi Klum, couldn’t hide his gratitude for the canvas. “In a story full of dreams, I was able to experience tonight how one of my own dreams came true. I am incredibly grateful to see my designs on the stage of the palace,” he said.

With Jean Paul Gaultier, Ellen von Unwerth and other high-calibre guests joining the rapturous standing ovation, Scott’s triumph marks the moment one of fashion’s boldest visionaries fully realised a lifelong dream on the grandest scale possible.

‘Blinded by Delight’ is scheduled to run until July 2027. Find tickets and more info here.
