Fresh off winning Best New Artist at the Music Week Women In Music Awards 2025, Nottingham-born sister duo ALT BLK ERA are charging into a new chapter with their latest single “Okay (Cyber Racing)”, released via LAB Records. Dropping midway through their EU and UK tour with Pendulum, the track captures the electrifying energy of a band in full stride — a collision of electronic euphoria, defiant rock attitude, and the genre-bending innovation that has made them one of the UK’s most exciting new acts.

For Schön! Magazine, the duo curate a playlist of tracks that have shaped their journey — songs of rebellion, resilience, and raw emotion, tracing the DNA of ALT BLK ERA’s ever-evolving sound.

Hey, what are you up to right now?

We’re currently supporting Pendulum on their EU and UK tour! At this very moment, we’re crossing into Switzerland after performing in Milan last night! It’s been an epic tour so far, and we’re so grateful that Pendulum took us under their wing. We’ve been big fans of theirs for years – this feels like a dream come true for all of us!

If someone asked you what your origin story was, how would you describe it?

Oh my gosh! We could come at it from so many different angles, but one of them we actually documented in our previous album, Rave Immortal. It shows how Nyrobi became chronically ill during the pandemic, leading to her being registered as disabled with a hidden disability. The album and our origin story reflect pain, strengthening sisterhood, rebellion, and defiance. Our origin story is really about the many challenges we’ve overcome to get our music out in the way we want it to be heard.

Describe your style in three words:

Harajuku
Duality
Y2K

What is the most precious thing in your wardrobe?

Chaya: My Movements hoodie — my sister bought it for me the first time I saw them live.

Nyrobi: A Karen Millen coat that my mom handed down to me. It’s the one thing I always double-check is hung up properly!

Which living person do you most admire?

Beyoncé. She challenges social constructs through her music in incredibly epic ways. Check out her album Cowboy Carter and how it connects to her Country Music Awards performance that stirred so much controversy — Beyoncé always claps back and says what she needs to through her art.

If you could play any venue, which one would it be?

Ally Pally.

Where are you happiest?

Nyrobi: In my room, songwriting.

Chaya: In my room, listening to my music, playing Solitaire, Good Sorting, or Sudoku.

Ideal three-course meal?

We don’t care about starters – bring out the main! We’re on tour right now, so we’re in desperate need of some comfort food.

Nyrobi: 5-star restaurant, fish and chips.

Chaya: Mince wrap with yoghurt and cheese.

Both: And then our homemade apple crumble and custard!

Who would play you in the story of your life?

Nyrobi: Samuel L. Jackson or Denzel Washington – love them! They could best portray my personality.

Chaya: Jenna Ortega – in her Wednesday era.
