There is something uniquely powerful about versatility. To be able to shapeshift and morph into someone new is something Juno Temple can do with ease. Equal parts energetic and effervescent, Juno Temple, who wears COMME des GARÇONS for her Schön! 46digital cover story, has grown up on screen and has stolen scenes in the process. It’s clear her latest roles will, once again, prove just how many layers she has to herself as an actress. Noah Hawley, the creator of Fargo, had her in mind for the fifth edition of the show, just another person desperate to have Juno Temple grace their project. “I remember getting a call from my team saying they had sent the first three scripts of Fargo, and would I look at them because [creator/writer] Noah Hawley wants to talk to me,” she states. “I was like, “Oh. Oh my god. F*ck yeah!” Noah Hawley is so brilliant and so smart. It’s like going to a university and seeing your favourite lecture by your favourite lecturer and being front row and wanting to ask all the questions. I was nervous to talk to him, but I was beyond excited.”
Despite not being a sporty person (“I did everything in my power not to do sports”), Temple had to do stunts for Fargo. “I did as much as they would let me,” she laughs. “I did set fire to somebody. I don’t need to do that again.” Her fitness plan wasn’t overly strenuous, stating that what makes Dot different is that “she’s kind of a feral fighter” and not as slick. “The stunts that were required felt quite natural to me because I’m quite a feral person [laughs], but I even surprised myself. I surprised the whole crew when I had to run and the camera operator Mitch, who has worked on a lot of Spielberg’s movies, told me that I ran faster than Tom Cruise. And I said, “What??!”
Another way Temple likes to morph into a character? Embracing their fashion and styling choices. “Fashion in general is a way of expressing your personality,” she explains. “It’s also something that I f*cking love with a character… getting to collaborate with hair and make up and wardrobe. It’s such a great moment when it all comes together and it’s just right. You’re like, “Wow! Bye Juno! See you later!” I love that. It’s really magic.”
