Ishod Wair is one of the most talented professional skateboarders of his generation. Born and raised in New Jersey, Wair received his first board as a child and was immediately captivated, developing what would blossom into a lifelong and life-changing passion. “I started when I was eight because I saw it on TV and thought it looked fun. I tried and I was hooked,” Wair recalls. “I played basketball before, I was in team sports, and there are rules… In skateboarding there are no rules outside of a contest; you can do what you please.”
Like many others in his game, what seems to matter the most to Wair is people: that incredibly varied array of characters one can meet and learn from while hanging around together in skate parks, swapping tips and mastering each move. “The community is pretty unique,” he tells us. “You can meet any type of person skateboarding. There’s a common interest, so many different people and characters in this sport, activity, art, whatever you wanna call it: the community as a whole inspired me the most.”
Having just shot his second global campaign for Nike SB, maker of his signature skate shoes, the “Ishod,” Wair is now focused on being the best ambassador possible for skateboarding, aiming to inspire beyond his community: ‘I’m trying to make a good example for the younger generations and pass the knowledge down to my younger homies, help them make better decisions, be ambitious. You gotta reach for the stars!”
