From serving aces on the tennis court to acing the game of hair care, Ana Ivanović‘s journey is one of passion, and skill. Since retiring, the former world No. 1 tennis player has been working towards making the world a better place by becoming a UNICEF National Ambassador to now making women feel empowered and beautiful with the help of Schwarzkopf.
In conversation with Schön!, Ana shares her insights on how her athletic background influences her approach to beauty, her favourite Schwarzkopf products, and her vision for empowering individuals to feel confident, both on and off the court.
How did the collaboration with Schwarzkopf come about, and what attracted you to work with them?
We were approached by them last summer and I was immediately super excited about the possibility of working with Schwarzkopf because it’s such an authority in the hair world. They cover everything. So, to be part of and to be their ambassador is really an honour for me. Also, we share the same values and with this new campaign in particular, they really support inner strength together with outer beauty. For me, it is a perfect match.
Are there any specific products that have become staples in your daily routine?
One of my favourite go-to shampoos and conditioners are from the Schwarzkopf Gliss Oil Nutritive line. I like to mix it with Schwarzkopf Gliss 4-in-1 Bonding Hairmask Total Repair, especially when my hair feels a little bit tired or dull in the winter. Then, after washing and shampooing, I love the Schwarzkopf Gliss Liquid Silk Express-Repair-Conditioner. It gives a beautiful shine to the hair.
As a former professional tennis player, how do you balance your active lifestyle with maintaining healthy hair and beauty routines?
It’s not easy, but it’s super important because when we take care of ourselves, our hair, our skin, our body, we feel better and we are better for people around us.
In your opinion, how can beauty and personal care routines impact an athlete’s mindset and performance?
It can impact a lot, especially nowadays when everything is in the public eye and on social media. In tennis, particularly, when you perform in front of millions of people, how you look plays a big part in how you feel.
Are there upcoming projects or initiatives with Schwarzkopf that you’re particularly excited about?
I think this new campaign is super exciting because it features seven individual and powerful women coming together to create something beautiful and to promote strength. It’s really a dream for me to be part of it.
It’s very powerful and empowering. Looking back, which of your achievements are you most proud of in your tennis career?
Of course, winning a Grand Slam and becoming number one in the world. But there were many tiny moments throughout my career where I was just super proud of the hard work I put in.
It’s fascinating to hear how athletes have a different mindset. Who outside of tennis had a significant impact on your life and career?
There are many powerful women I look up to, like Jessica Alba, who became an entrepreneur. In tennis, it was Monica Seles. I try to follow my heart and believe that when you do something you love, everything falls into place.
How was it to stop playing?
It was difficult. Tennis had been my life since I was five. But I felt it was time to step aside and give back in another way. I have many dreams and visions for the future.
What else are you looking forward to in 2024?
I’m excited about new projects and learning more, growing, and finding more time for myself.
