Forget subtlety — at Oceanus, the luxury swimwear company helmed by designer and founder Hannah Attalah, more is always more. That’s why it’s bringing out a line of vintage-inspired swimwear perfect to complete your summer look. Oceanus broke onto the scene with a collection celebrating the brashness – and playfully overly dramatic nature – of ’80s fashion.
The ’80s were “filled with excess, self-expression, and rapid change,” says Attalah. Swimwear from the label last year featured fluorescent hues paired with golds and frills. “We guess we should have expected this comeback given the current conjunction of political and cultural events, which naturally steer our thoughts to that statement-making era.” For this year’s collection — aptly titled “Beverly Hills” — Oceanus pulled from slightly further back, turning to the sexual liberation movements of the late ’60s and early ’70s to bring us a veritable swimwear design masterclass.
Pieces from the “Beverly Hills” Collection are hand-embroidered, with each garment featuring a combination of water-resistant velvets and eco-friendly recycled Lycras.
With a forward-thinking, highly individual style, it’s no wonder Oceanus is turning heads and this latest collection is the perfect testament.
