necessity sense ss20 | act of desire

As part of this season’s Paris Fashion Week Men’s, contemporary label Necessity Sense is unveiling its SS20 runway film “Act of Desire.” Set in Taipei at eventide, the brand transports us into a retro psychedelic club scene with its latest collection and accompanying runway film.

Mixing a healthy dose of disco nostalgia and filled with velvet curtains, laser lights, and billowing smoke, Necessity Sense welcomes us to a secret garden. Immersed in a retro psychedelic jungle party, the brand’s SS20 collection takes centre stage. Spurred from the commonplace information overload in the 21st century and daily life addictions, Necessity Sense’s SS20 collection provides a respite to our clogged senses.

“An act of desire is the motive and the question behind Necessity Sense’s SS20 collection. What do you desire in an endless pool of possibilities? What makes a difference when you’ve become numb, due to an overexposure of endless information? Sometimes life just feels like an ongoing narrative of daily life addictions. For Necessity Sense, what matters is to slow down, is to appreciate, is to look back.”

For Spring Summer 2020, Necessity Sense looks back on Asian culture — going over references from the ‘60s, ‘80s up until the ‘00s — while revisiting key moments and ringing in a new style era.

The brand’s trademark coloured silks and deconstructed knits marry a selection of custom embellished shirts and denim patterns this season. Pieces get a graphic revamp, incorporating fading floral and psychedelic art elements while maintaining Necessity Sense’s signature relaxed tailored look.
