louis vuitton × murakami | the comeback of a legend

Pause whatever you’re doing — Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami are officially reuniting, and the fashion world is about to lose its mind. Twenty years after their original collaboration revolutionised luxury with its playful pop-art edge, the partnership of dreams is back with an anniversary re-edition collection that’s bigger, bolder, and even more irresistible.

Launching worldwide on 1 January 2025, Louis Vuitton × Murakami isn’t just a nostalgic throwback — it’s a full-on celebration of artistry and innovation, featuring over 200 pieces that bring Murakami’s iconic designs into the now. Think: cutting-edge craftsmanship meets Y2K pop culture. This collection is as much for longtime fans as it is for the TikTok crowd rediscovering the era that made fashion fun.

So, is this a brand-new collaboration? Not quite. “A re-edition means that all the products in this collection are based on the same artistic inspirations as those of the original collaboration,” explains Murakami. While it’s not a fresh partnership, it’s a loving homage to a cultural milestone that remains as relevant today as it was two decades ago.

At the heart of the drop is Murakami’s legendary Monogram Multicolore. The rainbow LV monogram, first seen in 2003, has been reimagined with advanced digital printing and splashed across everything from classic City Bags like the Dauphine Soft and Alma BB to small leather goods and ready-to-wear. Whether it’s on a sleek Speedy 25 or a made-to-order Malle Wardrobe packed with 33 Speedy bags (yes, really), this motif is as fresh as ever.

But wait — there’s more. Murakami’s cheeky Superflat Panda is also making a triumphant return. The whimsical character pops up on blue and black leather bags, travel pieces like the Keepall 45, a skateboard, and even a keyring. It’s playful, it’s nostalgic, and it’s everything we love about Murakami’s world of Superflat art.

And the campaign? It’s nothing short of spectacular. Starring Louis Vuitton House Ambassador Zendaya, the campaign imagery — captured by Dutch photography legends Inez and Vinoodh — channels the same playful energy as the collection. Set against city skylines, rollercoasters, and lush urban parks, Zendaya interacts with Murakami’s beloved characters and motifs in a dazzling visual spectacle. The magic extends to two accompanying short films, where the collection springs to life with energy and charm.

Throughout the campaign, Zendaya models an array of standout pieces from the re-edition collection: the reworked Speedy 25 and Keepall bags, brightly coloured Louis Vuitton leather belts, Monogram Mules, and silk scarves — all proving that playful sophistication is timeless.

Even Louis Vuitton’s fragrance line gets a glow-up. The Attrape-Rêves and Imagination perfumes feature colourful packaging and travel cases adorned with Monogram Multicolore, adding another layer of whimsy to this re-edition.

With Louis Vuitton × Murakami, the House has managed to bottle the energy of early 2000s fashion and repackage it for a new generation. It’s a vibrant, playful, and totally unmissable celebration of two creative powerhouses who know exactly how to keep us hooked. Mark your calendars for 1st January 2025 — the moment this collection drops is going to be monumental.
