GCDS is back and this time they’re diving into the darkly glamorous side of nostalgia with a capsule collection straight out of a horror lover’s dreams. Teaming up with Universal Pictures, GCDS has brought Chucky, Dracula, and the eerie essence of classic horror to the fashion forefront, debuting the collection at their recent FW24 runway show, aptly titled Toys for Adults.
At the core of this collection are designs that practically scream personality. Leading the charge is a statement sweatshirt splashed with an unapologetically bold Chucky print, for those unafraid to wear their love for the iconic horror doll on their sleeve (quite literally). Then, there’s the daringly sheer Dracula mini-dress, a piece that mixes gothic charm with modern flair, perfect for anyone looking to make a spellbinding entrance. The accessories are equally magnetic, with the Mega Comma and Comma Notte bags — designed specifically for this capsule — showcasing jacquard fabric printed with, of course, Chucky. It’s a collection that isn’t shy about its influences, nor its intention to make waves in wardrobes everywhere.
To mark this monstrous collab, GCDS turned up the fright factor with an exclusive dinner on October 23rd, held at none other than the iconic Universal Studios Backlot. Imagine the infamous Elm Street bathed in cinematic nostalgia and horror magic as guests stepped into a scene straight from a classic thriller. Hosted by Giuliano Calza, GCDS’s creative brain and resident thrill-seeker, the dinner was a tribute to Universal’s timeless monsters and the brand’s penchant for playful, boundary-pushing style.
The guest list was as eclectic as the collection itself, featuring the likes of new horror icon Kathryn Newton, Genesis Webb, the creative duo Simi and Haze Khadra, and artist Nadia Lee Cohen. Gigi Goode and The Dare also joined in, each bringing their unique energy to a night where horror and high fashion intertwined seamlessly.
What makes this collection so intriguing isn’t just the names or the iconic prints but the way it meshes GCDS’s bold, playful style with the enduring mystique of Universal’s horror legends. With this collaboration, Calza has captured the spirit of transformation and nostalgia, offering pieces that are destined to get the conversation started.
For those brave enough to step into the spotlight, this collection offers wearable art that pays homage to cinema’s dark icons while adding a touch of irreverent fun. And as GCDS fans would say, if you’re going to face your fears, you might as well do it in fashion.
