Today, adidas originals and Alexander Wang unveiled the long-awaited first drop from the third season form the quasi-classic collaboration. Taking inspiration from “factory inconsistencies, the collection embraces rejection and quality control standards”, the NY designer envisions unique apparel, footwear, and accessories; all the while embracing imperfections and further subverting “fashion communication as it is known”.
Taking the insurgent underground style known to previous seasons, this drop features 13 unisex pieces. Adopting and adapting the adidas original classic stripes and sporty aesthetic, Wang presents a collection with a predominantly monochrome palette, adorned with bold reds, vibrant violets, and the odd emerald accent. Once again featuring the infamous upside-down trefoil logo as well as warehouse inspired graphics, the collection will be available from this Saturday at over 140 global retailers, select adidas and Alexander Wang flagship locations, and, of course, online. But there’s a twist. Each piece will be one of a kind: introducing “pixelated graphics, uneven printing, and perma-wrinkled fabrics” and willingly ditching traditional “quality control”, each original garment will boast a “raw, industrial touch and one-of-a-kind ‘flaws.'”
The collection and unconventional campaign, photographed by Brianna Capozzi and styled by Haley Wollens, were introduced earlier this month as AW himself and the five muses made their way to the first weekend of the infamous Coachella in a social media-induced frenzy (a.k.a. interactive road trip). Spontaneity being the main inspiration behind the clothes and imagery, the campaign is candid, colourful and disruptive.
Adidas Originals by Alexander Wang’s Drop 1 of Season 3 will be available from tomorrow, April 21st, at select retailers worldwide, adidas Originals & Alexander Wang flagship locations, and online.
