“Motorcycle riders, especially of the Heritage segment, have a different approach towards style,” says Christian Cartsburg, Project Leader of the BMW Motorrad Heritage Collection. For BMW Motorrad, this “different approach” manifests in a number of ways. Pieces in the latest BMW Motorrad Heritage Collection are sleek and primarily black, harkening back to classic style while simultaneously taking considerable inspiration from the looks of today.
BMW Motorrad sets its collections apart by bringing cutting-edge technology into classic styles. This involves constant testing and redesigning, ensuring riders will be able to enjoy a “comfortable and casual” look that “they will wear even when they are not on a ride,” as Cartsburg explains. “It should not look like functional motorcycle gear… With this in mind, we looked for classic and timeless styles and gave them new life, as well as the corresponding technology. In particular, the new and extremely thin NP-Flex protectors help to achieve classic and casual silhouettes while offering full protection.”
Offerings in the 2020 collection are robust — crisp leather jackets pair with BMW’s RoadCrafted jeans, a look rounded out by the strong-yet-casual PureShifter boots. One of the leather jackets — the wearer-customisable PureBoxer — is a particular favourite of Cartsburg. “I love the leather, the trims, the colour of the lining and, of course, being able to exchange the BMW branding on the left sleeve,” he admits.
The collection, which will be available from January 2020, debuted this past weekend at the Pure&Crafted Festival in Amsterdam — an ideal environment for a label like BMW Motorrad, Cartsburg tells us. “Heritage is all about emotions,” he begins, “and so is the Pure&Crafted Festival. People go there to experience passion, craftsmanship, true values, freedom, rock ‘n’ roll and fun. Therefore, Amsterdam was the right place to be.”
But, naturally, Amsterdam is not the only place viewers can enjoy the latest from BMW Motorrad exhibited to its fullest extent; BMW Motorrad Ride & Style products, both from the heritage collection and beyond, will have a prominent showing at Milan’s EICMA in November.
While these showings are good fun and demonstrate what BMW Motorrad is capable of, promising riders the best experience possible is still at the forefront of every piece, says Cartsburg. “Craftsmanship and longevity are only two of the heritage core values,” Cartsburg states. “It’s what our customers expect from the bikes, the accessories and, of course, the riders’ gear. We carefully looked for partners during the whole development and production process to achieve the best quality possible.”
