If Tommy Hilfiger were a mood this season, it would be that moment you step off a ferry, the wind catches your jacket just right, and someone’s already asking where you got it. The new Tommy Hilfiger x U.S. SailGP Team capsule collection chases that feeling, with clothes built for easy charm and a little bit of showing off. Blending the precision of competitive sailing with the comfort of everyday style, Tommy Hilfiger takes its long-standing maritime heritage and gives it a performance-driven edge.
The all-American brand has always had its eye on the U.S. SailGP Team, claiming it “is changing the face of sailing.” Now, after more than 40 years of collaborations spanning golf, tennis, soccer, skiing and, of course, sailing, this partnership marks a new high-water mark. “SailGP is high-stakes and high-speed, reaching new audiences in iconic locations and inspiring a new generation,” says Hilfiger.
This partnership is no accident — it’s actually the perfect moment. In 2024, Tommy Hilfiger became the Official Lifestyle Apparel Partner of the U.S. SailGP Team, a crew redefining how sailing looks, moves, and connects with audiences. SailGP itself is sailing’s high-octane stage: 12 hydrofoiling F50 catamarans hurtling towards 100 km/h across harbours from Sydney to Saint-Tropez.
For Mike Buckley, the team’s CEO and co-owner, Tommy Hilfiger was the only name worth calling. “He immediately saw the potential of SailGP as more than just a sport, but as a cultural movement. This collection is a testament to what’s possible when you dream big and never give up,” Buckley says.
Drawing from the brand’s archives, the collection channels nautical cues into contemporary silhouettes, executed in Tommy Hilfiger’s signature red, white and blue. The heavy-duty colour-blocked flag jacket, built from a three-layer water-resistant fabric for on-deck grit with off-deck polish, is the blueprint of the entire collection. The pique performance polo updates a classic with sweat-wicking fibres and UV protection, while an athletic ripstop sailing jacket offers windproof comfort with a mesh lining. Between races, a heavyweight knit hoodie, graphic tees and a stylish colour-blocked sweater keep the look relaxed without losing its charisma.
For Tommy Hilfiger, sailing is not a seasonal flirtation but a decades-deep relationship. Maritime signal flags inspired the house’s iconic logo in 1985, and the ’90s saw the launch of its first Sailing Gear collection. From backing solo sailor Brad Van Liew in a round-the-world race to consecutive Volvo Extreme 40 Grand Prix wins in 2005 and 2006, the brand has long proved it can ride the waves as well as it rides trends. Now, that legacy continues on the decks of the U.S. SailGP Team, with the crew wearing Tommy Hilfiger at every stop of the 2025 Rolex SailGP Championship season.
The Tommy Hilfiger x U.S. SailGP Team capsule collection launches 15 August 2025 online, in Tommy Hilfiger stores worldwide, and select retailers.
