Electrifying Couture

Alexandre Vauthier knew how to begin his show with a bang. The French fashion designer presented his Haute Couture Autumn Winter 2013/2014 Collection at the Palais de Tokyo in a completely dark room. The crowd quieted and the last individuals found their seats. Suddenly, electronic music enveloped the space and piercing lights penetrated through the cracks of the backdrop. The audience was electrified with excitement. The first model, with a high bun and smoky makeup, charged out onto the runway full throttle. She donned a black tailored jacket with large fur lapels and a pair of long, draped pants. Her high heel shoes bandaged her ankles yet let her toes free. Vauthier’s girl exuded sensual glamour. It comes to no surprise that the couturier has dressed some of the most dashing divas such as Beyonce and Rihanna.

This haute couture season, Vauthier stuck to a chiefly black and white colour palette with some pieces in fleshy hues and cornflower blue. We see a variety of onyx jackets with gold zippers and skirts with audaciously high slits. Several low cut garments make their way into the show, but with stylish draping to add some elegance to the rocker vibe.
Vauthier dresses his femme fatale in not only silks and crocodile leathers, but also fur sweaters and coats. While one may think this would add softness, the furs are actually manipulated in a way to reveal, not to cover. One fur sweater exposes a sexy open back, demonstrating that the designer does everything he can to stay coherent with the biker chic image. Vauthier’s girl may wear a sequined jacket, but her bustier tells you not to mess with her. Using geometric shapes, Vauthier manipulated fabrics to hug the female body in delicious ways.
The high-energy show ended with Lindsey Wixson in a low V-cut icy sequined top with an impressive baby blue feathered skirt. Gasps were heard, proof that Vauthier held a flawless finale to an overall glamorous spectacle.
