A true artist is someone that is one-of-a-kind; a leader who struts to the beat of their own drum and doesn’t follow orders from anyone. Better yet, this person doesn’t just shape eras — they define them. As a style icon and leader singer of the British rock band The Struts, Luke Spiller has all of that (and then some) in spades. With great uniqueness and style sense comes great responsibility. With that, nothing is more ‘Spiller’ than an exclusive bespoke watch, dreamed up and designed by Spiller himself.
The watch is the kick off of Fossil Group’s imprint Misfit‘s exclusive Artist Series collaborations. Bringing together his distinctly captivating style, uncompromising commitment to his craft, and tying it with his own personal mantra of “The Time Is Now,” the limited-run box set is designed by Spiller himself, a bespoke timepiece that captures the artist’s essence and his one-of-a-kind fashion.
The pocket watch is inspired by antique vintage designs embellished with an antique gold finish and perfectly placed crystals. As part of the exclusive limited-run box set and in addition to the watch, Spiller’s feverish fans can own a piece of his sky-soaring persona themselves: a bejewelled “Daddy Cat” pendant. The watch has Luke’s own life ethos — “The Time Is Now” — engraved on the inner pendant which serves as both a symbol to never sit still and a reminder to Luke to constantly choose the “now.”
Speaking on creating the watch, Spiller states, “Designing this watch was like writing a song or making a piece of art,” he notes. “I found myself inserting small details that were reflective of things I admire everywhere to create something new that I would personally love and wear. Function and versatility with the leather strap, sophistication, and class with a timeless pocket watch— it’s peppered with rock-and-roll details. The watch truly captures who I am as a creator.”
To be a timeless piece in one’s wardrobe, each set includes a gold-brushed studded leather strap to be worn as a wristwatch or wearers can attach the watch to a brushed chain (that doubles as a necklace) so it can then be used as a pocket watch.
As watch craftsmen, the name Fossil is synonymous with timelessness. Their imprint Misfit, which started over a decade ago, melds together tech and fashion. Better yet, they bring together collectivity and creativity; an imprint that understands everyone wants to own a piece crafted by their favourite creator.
Like with music and songwriting, crafting the collaboration brought up similarities for Luke. “Designing this watch was like writing a song or making a piece of art,” Luke notes. “I found myself inserting small details that were reflective of things I admire everywhere to create something new that I would personally love and wear.”
The bespoke collaboration is just one of the many snazzy things happening for Luke and The Struts. Last week, the band unveiled a new EP called “Unplugged at EastWest” that features 4 live tunes — including fan-favourite “Pretty Vicious” — with a video set of the tracks. If you want to make sure you’re not late to the next gig performed by The Struts, luckily for you Spiller made a piece of art that keeps time (and looks great while doing so).
