Last week the Deichmann Design Atelier showcased the works of quirky up-and-coming designers in Berlin. The creations ranged from flats and sneakers to boxy booties and stilettos, each with its own unique personality.

One of the brands included was the London label Nova Chiu, showcasing pieces that included printed boots, furry red heels adorned with gold bells, navy zipped wedges, and neon sneakers embellished with fur. The Nova Chiu creations are the handiwork of the woman herself, who the brand is named after, as well as her Canadian life partner Jeff Archer. Their style can be described as a combination of classic craft ship made with cutting-edge fabrics.

Milou van den Berg’s blue boot-sneakers with mesh detailing were another Schön! favourite. The young designer from Arnhem explains her wish to combine sport with fashion, “for me it’s important to re-interpret the standard image of sneakers by using unconventional materials, methods and closures.”

The Deichmann Design Atelier was put in motion to celebrate the 100th birthday of Deichmann, Europe’s largest purveyor of footwear. The Deichmann project leader Sonja states, “we wanted to know how creative designers interpret the shoes of tomorrow,” and they couldn’t be happier with the responses they received.

Each of the five designers featured have created one of a kind pieces that will be available to win in an online giveaway on the Deichmann website on June 24th. Previous to this, shoeaholics are allowed to vote for their favourite shoe from June 13th – June 24th. The most popular five pairs will be awarded a limited edition mini-series consisting of a limited edition of six pairs. The International Shoe Competence Centre, will produce the winning shoes for the competition, but only after the winners have been chosen, meaning each shoe will only be created to the individual sizes of the winners, ensuring a truly one of a kind design!
