“We must always change, renew, rejuvenate ourselves; otherwise we harden.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Fashion is a living language. As a vital creative force, it constantly reinvents itself, shifting form with each new season, each new voice, each new body that wears it. For this issue of Schön! we wanted to look back at why fashion magazines exist in the first place. We questioned our creative process, our work and our vision, and we realised this: it all starts with the models and the designers, the talented teams, the faces and the stories that give shape to a concept. The impulse for change gives the beat, and the need for reinvention sets the rhythm.
At the centre of our Issue 49 story is our cover star Aweng Chuol, who wears Valentino and epitomises beauty as something alive, fluid and ever-changing. Inside, model Noah Bates adds a sharp edge to menswear, underscoring fashion’s core: evolution over stasis.
We spotlight the talent reshaping style and culture in their own ways. Haley Lu Richardson, radiant in Pandora, reinvents herself through her debut poetry book and pole dancing pursuits. Lexie Liu bridges music and futurism, while Charlie Heaton captures the restless momentum of change, as he prepares for the release of the final season of ‘Stranger Things’. Sonja Weißer grounds the idea of reinvention with an actor’s quiet strength, while actor and singer Asha Banks and actor Ella Anderson embody youth in flux, a reminder of film’s creative power.
The pages of Schön! have always been open to voices who resist definition, such as those of model and activist Vivian Jenna Wilson and timeless icon Erykah Badu, whose groundbreaking fusion of music, soul and style has redefined cultural boundaries for decades, reminding us that change is not a trend but a way of being.
In Berlin, we turn our lens to artisans whose craft becomes a form of storytelling: florist Lilo Klinkenberg, food stylist Hannah Kleeberg, photographer and content creator Melanie Kieback and author Raphaëlle Red. Each of them is portrayed in CHANEL, underscoring how creation itself is an act of reinvention, whether through words, images, flavours or blooms.
In an exclusive editorial with Louis Vuitton, we show iconic codes reimagined through a fresh lens: the A/W 2025 collection by Nicolas Ghesquière is a perfect example of fashion which combines heritage, modernity and novel inspirations to continue writing new stories.
Schön! 49 explores the energy of fashion: the forward-motion of imagination, the inventive flow that underpins all the features in this issue. Creating is an act of reinvention, and every reinvention begins with the people behind the stories.

As spring brings re-birth, summer can carry with it a longing for renewal, whether that’s in the form of a well-deserved rest, a reinvigorating wellness journey or the adventure of a lifetime.
For this, the second edition of Schön! alive, I asked myself and my team what it meant to renew oneself (internally and externally), one’s space or even one’s way of seeing the world.
Wellness experiences naturally came to mind, but the quiet, powerful kind that transform from the inside out. And so, in this issue, we explore destinations that balance science and soul, from the gentle stillness of Namia River Retreat in Vietnam to the pioneering health approach at SHA Wellness Clinic in Spain and the sensorial luxury of the Vila Vita Spa in Portugal.
Our journey continues to Italy, where Luis Contreras, founder of Il Sereno Lago di Como, reveals the story behind one of the most serene hotels in Europe. In Milan, we enter The Longevity Spa at Portrait Milano, where Luigi Caterino leads us through next-gen wellness centred on good sleep.
In the height of summer, movement feels instinctive: we run, jump, dive, and then pause to reflect. For the summer 2025 edition of Schön! alive, we celebrate motion in all its forms: intentional, athletic and restorative.
In the Austrian Alps, we experience high-altitude luxury at PRIESTEREGG in Leogang and WIESERGUT in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, where design and nature combine to create stunning mountain escapes. Here we capture snowboarder and model Leon Vockensperger, styled in full AlphaTauri looks, as he effortlessly blends sport with style.
We meet Olympic rower Oliver Zeidler, who finds peak form through precision tech, while driver Nico Hulkenberg takes us inside the world of Formula 1 and tells us about his latest collaboration with LEGO.
Inspired, we head to Billund, Denmark, to explore LEGO House – a space where creativity and play are not just for kids. In the Maldives, we swim with majestic manta rays and experience marine conservation first hand at the Maamunagau Resort.
Wellness, adventure and a deeper connection with nature can also be found through food. We explore chef Surya Antara’s nature-infused philosophy at Open Kitchen in Buahan, Bali, Alexandre Mazzia’s soulful cuisine at his 3-Michelin-starred AM in Marseille and Chet Sharma’s warm and nostalgic approach at BiBi in London.
Five celebrated chefs from around the world also share recipes to recreate at home that are wholesome or that take your taste buds on an unexpected journey. And if adventurous dining appeals, join us on an expedition to intrepid supper clubs in some of the most awe-inspiring destinations on earth – from the starlit Maldives and the foothills of Mount Kenya to the Australian outback and a castaway Scottish island.
We then turn to craftsmanship and creativity and the projects that have the power to transform lives as well as spaces and forms. We speak to architects at OMA about designing for an ever-changing world. Kris Van Assche tells us why working on his bold new collaboration with Serax felt like a breath of fresh air. And finally, we celebrate the empowering Max Mara Art Prize for Women and the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize – both awards that can change the lives of their recipients as well as our perceptions of art.
This summer, we move – gently or boldly, outward or inward – knowing that every motion leads to renewal. And renewal, we believe, is the highest form of luxury.

When looking for inspiration for 48th issue, there was an aspect of creativity which we realised we rarely look at: the initial spark. What moves us, what inspires us and what pushes us to act? At the heart of it all is desire. It’s the inspiration that compels us to create; that sensation of longing for something, the idea which is at the inception of it all. That, dear readers, was the starting point to our issue – the dynamic energy behind all our greatest actions in life.
Desire can be interpreted in multiple ways, as we learnt when we asked our collaborators to embody and represent what the act of desiring was for them. It’s a philosophical question that opens us up to the multiplicity of experiences of human life. From mind and creativity to body and beauty, from concrete IRL love to spiritual longing: desire moves us in many ways.
We start with cover star Emma Myers, captured by Cameron Postforoosh in CHANEL. An example that dreams really can come true, Myers tells us how her childhood obsessions were realised, from working with hero Jack Black and starring in ‘A Minecraft Movie’ to being immortalised as a LEGO mini figure. Meanwhile, model and content creator Calum Harper is soon set to achieve his childhood ambition of becoming an actor, and Stephanie Suganami shares her excitement about her first feature film ‘Opus’.
Accomplished actor Jason Isaacs recounts how he coveted a role in ‘The White Lotus’ and why “having an interesting time at work”, such as in his latest film ‘The Salt Path’, is more important to him than career goals. The desire to weave stories seems to be a common theme; Alicia Von Rittberg entrances in Fendi, as she contemplates her character’s true motivations in ‘Dinner for Five – Killer for One’. Wunmi Mosaku stuns in Pandora, while telling us why discovering new characters, worlds and genres motivates her, including horror film ‘Sinners’. Meanwhile, Zoë Bleu Sidel talks us through making Luc Besson’s ‘Dracula: A Love Tale’ and why it’s less about horror than about a love and longing that transcends lifetimes.
But weaving stories spills into many disciplines. Actor, artist and musician Booboo Stewart explains how art addresses his yearning for greater self-understanding. Kelly McCormack longs for a way back to the truth, which she finds through music. She also tells us what drew her to her new film ‘Sorry, Baby’. Michael Cimino wants to up his game and resonate with audiences through his upcoming music and screen projects “Until Dawn” and “Motorheads”.
Dressed in Louis Vuitton, recording artist, DJ and producer Badchieff tells us how he explores themes of desire and loss. Summer Walker reveals why she’s ready to start a fresh chapter and explore new themes and genres in her music. Both talk us through their new albums.
The multi-faceted Jameela Jamil aims to put “uplifting and positive content out into the world” with movies such as Pixar’s ‘Elio’, while staying true to herself and embracing her imperfections. On the set of a Miu Miu special, author, entrepreneur and sustainability advocate Kiara Nirghin shares why she strives for a future where technology and AI are used for the greater good.
Fashion and desire have long gone hand in hand. In Paris, we shoot the H&M Studio Resort Capsule Collection against the iconic skyline and explore the dynamic energy of movement with the Fall 2025 Collection’s Lifestyle Capsule from Dior Men. In Milan, meanwhile, we enter an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ style universe, with the DEDAR Milano x Westwing collection.
Falling in love with life, exploring new dreams, letting yourself be inspired, opening yourself up to new possibilities; these are just some of the sensations we’d like to conjure within these pages. We hope you’re as inspired as we were making this issue.
