omega | the return of the railmaster

When OMEGA first introduced the Railmaster in 1957, it was a powerhouse of technical innovation, designed to serve a world rapidly advancing in science and industry. As part of the vaunted ‘Professional Line’ – alongside the Speedmaster and Seamaster – the original was built for engineers and scientists who needed exceptional precision in magnetic environments. That 1957 model resisted fields up to a groundbreaking 1,000 gauss – a monumental figure when rivals were often limited to just 60 gauss.

Today, OMEGA is launching the 2025 Railmaster, and the technical story is even more astonishing. More than six decades after its debut, the new watches are powered by the brand’s most advanced mechanics: the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806 (and the Small Seconds 8804). This engine is an astonishing 15 times more resistant than the original, certified at the industry’s highest standard by METAS. The 2025 Railmaster can now withstand magnetism up to 15,000 gauss, fully honouring its protective heritage while pushing technical limits far into the future.

This spectacular anti-magnetic capability is wrapped in a distinctly pure and refined aesthetic. The new stainless steel versions, available in a 38 mm case, maintain continuity with the Seamaster Aqua Terra collection, featuring the same symmetrical cases and linked bracelets. The watch’s visual appeal is heightened by the captivating mix of polished and brushed surfaces on the cases and metallic bracelets, adding a sophisticated contrast to the minimalist designs.

The collection offers two compelling styles for fans of OMEGA’s working-class hero. The first features a grey dial with a black gradient, retaining the extreme minimalist look of the original by keeping the dial clean of all wording save the OMEGA logo and the Railmaster name. Large indexes and numerals transferred in white Super-LumiNova ensure superb legibility, and this model is available on either a black leather strap or a redesigned stainless steel bracelet with easy comfort adjustment.

The second style presents a beige dial with a black gradient and includes a practical Small Seconds function, drawing inspiration from the 2004 Railmaster model and lending it a distinctive vintage look. This version uses indexes and numerals finished in vintage Super-LumiNova and comes on a golden-brown Novonappa leather strap or the steel bracelet, ensuring the enduring spirit of the Railmaster is preserved for a new era of professionals.
