Inspired by the practicality of work wear, HIGH by Claire Campbell creates clothing that is both functional and designed with the attention to detail usually found in couture. Along with sportswear, work wear and uniform that is traditionally made to fit the body while accommodating activity, Claire Campbell’s designs take reference from clothing that has been made for a specific purpose. For Autumn/Winter 2017-18, the campaign takes us to Sweden, a country with a long history of innovation in industry, design and culture.
Photographed in a contemporary architects countryside residence, HIGH TECH by Claire Campbell comes alive in a setting of contrasts, from modern interior spaces to the wide open expanses of the Swedish landscape.
Looking at the effects of a particular material on society, HIGH TECH examines the revolutionary impact of Swedish glass. More than any other material, glass has brought with it a profound shift in the way in which people live and work – especially in architecture and design – thereby enhancing the lifestyle of a whole nation
In the same way, HIGH TECH capitalises on the technological innovations in its own field of textiles, in particular the development of high-performance stretch fabrics. Created in response to the demands of the contemporary customer, HIGH TECH is specifically designed for an active lifestyle.
Just as sportswear is produced with a specific activity in mind, HIGH TECH designs are ergonomic, constructed to fit on and wrap around the body in a way that both practical and versatile. Ultimately, the aim of HIGH TECH clothing is to increase ease of movement and maintenance, thereby contributing a new freedom to daily life.
As glass continues to evolve in the digital age, with touch screens, ‘intelligent’ transparency and other emerging technologies, the progression is constant and ever changing. Likewise the evolution of HIGH TECH continues through consistent research, development and forward-thinking design.
