She’s the woman who has had countless career strands and explored many a venture in the fashion industry: Alexa Chung, business woman, fashion editor, author and muse, to name but a few titles, is an industry mastermind, having navigated the waters of fashion since she was 16, when she was scouted by Storm. A career in modelling ensued, and from there, the rest became history – and her story is that of an icon in the realms of fashion, TV and writing. Fronting campaigns a-plenty and being an ambassador for the best names in fashion, Alexa Chung is well versed in all things collaboration. However, this autumn, Chung adds another string to her already vast collection, teaming up with UGG to art direct an exclusive shoot in celebration of the Classic boot and iconic UGG styles – a successful feat from this entrepreneurial prodigy.
Chung joins Californian brand UGG to develop a concept that will honour the classic boot, and her contribution brings in a modern sensibility, focusing on creative women who are close to Alexa. The UGG boot takes centre-stage in the wardrobe of these women of style. Speaking of the celebrated item of clothing, Chung is quick to denote the status of UGG: “I’ve always appreciated classic items of clothing and always been drawn to things that have a kind of perennial appeal and I would say the UGG boot possesses that quality, for me.”
Her iconic status reflects the durability and timeless appeal of UGG – perfect timing for the launch of Classic II. Chung honestly relates her own personal associations of UGG: synonymous with spending time at home with friends. For her, UGG boots represent the uniform she dons in intimate moment with friends. “UGG means to me… classic, comfort; it’s become an icon in its own right,” she continues.
To bring her vision to life, Chung brought together a team of creatives that reflect her genuine, grounded approach to fashion. Ben Rayner lenses the shoot – whilst Stella Greenspan, a keen collaborator of Alexa’s, and assistant to none other than Grace Coddington, joins for the styling side of things. The women involved – namely stylist and designer Brianna Lance, poet and artist Cleo Wade, actor Coco Baudelle and editor Anna Z Gray – are reflective of Alexa’s take on creativity. More than anything, Alexa’s close and intimate team is an invitation into her world – an introduction to her circles – they even venture into her friend’s personal spaces NY apartments for the shoot. Expressing her admiration for these figures, Chung highlights that “Their relationship to UGG is that they have a great sense of style and sense of self.” The icon celebrates the importance of identity with this UGG collaboration, and the candid shoot perfectly captures her honest and grounded approach to style: one that champions an authenticity of character.
