Taking inspiration from the spatial paintings of Dutch artist Jan Maarten Voskuil, niOka creates an otherworldly collection, titled JA MAA VOS. The womenswear pieces reflect the geometrical complexities of Voskuil’s work, where volume and absence of corporeal physicality collide. As his free form analysis comes into being, so does the niOka collection reflect these asymmetric movements, and suggest infinite surfaces through slices and splicing. niOka is the creative child of Slovenian designer Nika Ravnik, whose pattern cuts breathe according to bodies, utilizing the zero waste principle. Utility and durability take centre stage – even the name, niOka, is taken from the Aboriginal term meaning “green hills”. Her designs embody a minimalist interpretation of function – whereby craftsmanship meets the avant-garde.
