On the third day of Milano Moda Uomo, formal wear seemed to be the focus of the day, and Italian tailoring was celebrated. Delving into Milan’s history in the field of menswear, collections shone with artisanal excellence in all things leather and wool. Schön! was particularly impressed by the collections, and whether it be footwear or outerwear, Milan proved its worth, yet again, on Day 3.
Andrea Pompilio combined the clean cut lines of Italian-style tailoring with urbanwear pieces, creating a young hybrid both colourful and fun. From the polka dot suits to the embroidered and embellished sweaters, the collection breathed a brilliant nostalgia for the charm of vintage silhouettes.
Upon arrival at Trussardi‘s Heaq-Quarters in Milan, what seemed to be a sumptuous 70s villa greeted us, with models sporting pinstripe suits, leather jackets and jeans as if they had walked out of an Antonioni film. Both the leather shirts and the coats were unlined, introducing a lightness to garments which can usually seem weighty. With slim, tailored figures, the Trussardi collection embodied the perfect 70s gentleman, with an added dose of contemporary elegance.
At Canali, a soft-spoken elegance was seen, with earthen tones and floral prints running throughout the collection. Schön! particularly loved the oversized cardigans, which, in conjunction with Canali’s slick tailoring, made for a very refined winter collection.
Much can be expected from Tod’s. But this time, not only did the footwear excel, but the suits, luggage and accessories were also a show-stopper. With suede jackets and trousers, velvet jackets and tweed suits, the collection focused on matte pieces, celebrating the practical and refined side of formal wear. With luggage that Schön! would more than willingly have whilst travelling, Tod’s demonstrated its excellence in terms of artisanal craft.
