Inspired by Francisco de Zurbaran’s Agnus Dei, this Schön! editorial explores the scapegoat and the mechanism behind it, which protects the interests of the whole society and the stability of the order by sacrificing individuals or minority groups. Diving into the role and meaning of scapegoats and examining power structures in society and the moral issues behind sacrifice, this editorial lensed by Han Yang with fashion by Minghao Zhuang challenges traditional aesthetic concepts, with quirky, dark and rebellious fashion style, reflecting the pain and isolation faced by the scapegoat. Man-eating flowers and crows serve as strong symbols to represent greed, bullying and darkness in society.
The man-eating flower symbolizes the devouring of power mechanisms, while the crow represents injustice. The models will play the role of scapegoats, with their clothes, makeup and expressions, conveying the inner struggle and resistance of the victims. The works will present a complex, thought-provoking visual story at the intersection of fashion and art, evoking the viewer’s thoughts on inequality, moral issues, and societal scapegoating. We hope that while appreciating fashion aesthetics, the audience can also reflect on the deep feelings behind various power mechanisms and societal sacrifices.
