He has collaborated with an astounding array of artists; in the ‘80s he produced Duran Duran’s biggest single The Reflex and, most recently, his teamwork with Beyoncé for Cuff It became her longest-charting single, enjoying 35 weeks on Billboard’s Hot 100. How does this alchemist weave guitar strings into gold? “Every morning I wake up with a song in my head,” he tells us. “It’s nothing that I try to do.” He finds hidden gems in everyday life, saying, “Every song I’ve written has been nonfiction based. It’s something that I see, something that I feel.”
