It’s a new dawn for Ferragamo and their SS 23 collection, which was just presented during MFW. For one month, an edited preview of Maximilian Davis, Creative Director of Ferragamo, debut collection will be available ahead of the official Spring Summer 2023 release. About the collection, Davis states, “I wanted to pay tribute to Salvatore’s start by bringing in the culture of Hollywood – but new Hollywood. Its ease and sensuality; its sunset and sunrise.”
This mindset flickers throughout the collection. Whether it’s paying homage to Salvatore Ferragamo’s designs for Marilyn Monroe or subverting femininity through second-skin suede, the collection shows Davis’ deft and distinct touch as a Creative Director. In particular, iconic new accessories are shown for the first time ever, like the sleek sandals and the Elina, with its signature graphic Gancini heel. The collection reflects the imagery shown throughout the designer’s first Milan runway show through the use of a beachfront palette mixed with modern glamour.
One of the most exciting aspects of the collection is Davis’ interpretation of the archival Wanda handbag. Breathing new life into the bag through high-shine finishes and new proportions, Wanda is a pillar of the collection. “It relates to Ferragamo, to Hollywood, to the ocean – but also to me, and to my own DNA,” states Davis. “I wanted to show that perspective, but now through the Ferragamo lens.” The preview is available on Ferragamo.com from the 4th until the 30th of November and in 17 stores worldwide.
