Travelling opens your mind to the world. It gets us out of our comfort zone by exposing us to things we don’t see in our daily lives, and expanding our perspectives, beliefs, and opinions. Seeing new places — whether it’s in your own city or across the world — broadens our worldview. Even our taste buds get to travel the world, trying new things just as we are.
As globetrotters, Schön! invites you to explore the unexpected flavours, textures, delicacies and more throughout the globe by exploring our tasting the world guide. In the fourth edition, taste dishes in south/southwest Mallorca
Located in Puerto Portals, this legendary establishment sits right in the harbour, looking onto an array of yachts, and has remained consistent from the day it opened in 1987. Flanigan is open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The breakfast menu is executed efficiently with perfect eggs benedict and the usual upmarket faire.
Lunch and dinner are always busy. There’s a small but cosy bar that’s actually fun to dine in. The menu always has an abundant selection of fish and seafood, along with classic European dishes. The wine list has some serious wine but, if navigated correctly, you can find delicious selections at reasonable prices. The service is great and it’s one of the few places that have retained that old school sense of civilization.
Schön!’s Tip = Open all day. Make a reservation to sit along port side.

A short drive between Palma and Andratx is a beach restaurant in a tiny cove that can be approached by sea or road. The vibe has distinct tones of Ibiza. You must book a table as this place is insanely popular. Cap Falco’s serves good beach cocktails starting at 8 am, but is known for its catch-of-the-day which are listed on a chalkboard, striking down the numbers on the board as the orders come in. It’s important to not arrive late as the kitchen “kicks off” at noon. Come early, pick out your fish, and relax.
There’s a well designed menu for the beach with starters, salads and burgers ,but nothing beats having your catch-of-the-day cooked table side. It is fun, festive, and the food is excellent but most of all — it’s a party.
Schön!’s Tip = Reserve your fish upon arrival and wear comfortable beach attire.

Tim’s Bar is an institution found in the Port of Andratx, which is situated in the best position along the front line. It is busy from breakfast until closing. The menu compliments the fact that it is fundamentally a watering hole, making it easy to stay because of their gastro-style pub grub and the scene is always lively.
Schön!’s Tip = Beautiful sunset and excellent mojitos. A perfect spot to watch any big sporting event.

Located in Puerto Andratx, this beautiful restaurant with its exquisite garden transports you to another world. The menu is high-end Mediterranean cuisine but is not overly fussy. Its presentation is definitely more polished and they execute it well. The wine list is superb and the service is impeccable. It is difficult to have a bad experience here as they have been at this game for a long time. Vent de Tramuntana is civilised and relaxed and in no way stuffy. Lunch is always festive and the evenings definitely lend themselves to an air of romance.
Schön!’s Tip = Book well in advance.

Located in Calvia about 25 minutes from Palma, Can Torrat is the epitome of what a great Mallorquin restaurant is. This family owned restaurant has been around for generations. The setting is as one would expect, with old family photos and various objects and artifacts collected from over the years adorning the walls, that makes up its charm and a true Mallorquin experience.
The majority of the produce comes directly from their finca and you can taste this immediately. The aiolis and toasted homemade bread is a must, as one has yet to come across an aioli that rivals theirs. The menu has a large selection of classic Mallorquin starters and the main courses — from suckling pig, slow cooked shoulder of lamb, grilled steaks and lamb chops. There is a small selection of fish and it lends itself to vegetarians here as there are delicious vegetables options in abundance.
The wine list is sensible but, personally, the house wine in the terracotta jarras is a good way to go, or the homemade potent sangria. If you want a true Mallorquin dining experience, this is the place and it delivers in all aspects. It is infectious in all the right ways and no wonder it has survived for so long, from hosting royalty and celebrities, it has no airs and graces. It is simply great!
Schön!’s Tip = Must make reservation. Sit on the back terrace.
