Some people daydream about impossible journeys. Sean MacCormac went and did one. On August 23rd, the skysurfing legend and two-time X Games medallist with over 22,000 skydives to his name, leapt from 1676.4 metres above San Francisco Bay. Strapped to a custom board designed by Prada Linea Rossa and Luna Rossa, he skydove nearly three minutes before actually riding down the suspension cables of the iconic Bay Bridge – a world-first moment of pure cinematic audacity.

Months of preparation went into making the impossible possible. MacCormac and his Red Bull team set up a mock cable system using a 55 m crane at Skydive Elsinore in California, replicating the bridge’s curve to practice flight paths. “We crossed the rubicon of the unknown,” he said, crediting a “math magician” named Eric for calculating how to mimic cable tension and curvature.

The board itself is a feat of engineering: a honeycomb core layered with carbon fibre for maximum reactivity and precision control, paired with a lightweight polyethylene base built to withstand the abrasion of metal cables. Instead of adhesives, its sleek surface carries painted graphic designs for a more seamless, aerodynamic finish. Luna Rossa’s America’s Cup know-how clearly shaped these details.

Prada Linea Rossa also outfitted MacCormac in high-performance garments and aerodynamic accessories designed for extreme conditions, merging textile innovation with functionality. “This project brings a dream to life,” MacCormac said. “To be able to slide along the cables of the iconic Bay Bridge brings this vision to life – it’s incredible being part of the full team effort to make this project a reality.”

After circling above the bay, MacCormac swooped down, deployed his parachute, and aligned for the grind. At 9:36 am, the board kissed the cables and he slid along them for a few glorious seconds before spiralling right and landing on a floating platform below amid cheers from a crowd along the Embarcadero.

“I didn’t have fear with the feat of it, but I had extreme anxiety in wanting to make sure to perform and stick every aspect of this,” MacCormac admitted. “I have my whole family here. My team, my pilots, I mean, they’re my family. My Red Bull second family, too. I wanted so badly to stick it for all of them. There really is no I in team, and it was such a cathartic feeling to have everybody here and powersliding onto the [barge] felt like coming home.”

This stunt marks the latest chapter in Prada Linea Rossa’s ongoing partnership with Red Bull, supporting athletes who test the boundaries of speed, design, and human potential.
