We all have vague ideas of what the end of the world would look like. But Parisian perfume house État Libre D’Orange has investigated an aspect of the Apocalypse which we all may have neglected: namely, what it will smell like. The latest addition to the long list of parfums extraordinaires, La Fin du Monde is a provocative take on the End of the World. État Libre D’Orange knows no boundaries when it comes to creating perfumes – and has created a place for itself in the field of perfumery with an avant-garde approach to creating scents. With names such as Antihéros, Sécretions Magnifiques or Putain des Palaces, you can only venture a guess as to where they delve to find their samples.
Taking inspiration from French author and poet Blaise Cendrar and his account of the end of the world, La Fin du Monde is a pepper infused, pop corn-tastic infusion. With hints of sandalwood, cumin and, of course, gun powder, this out-of-the-ordinary perfume will be a sure way to spice up the pile of Christmas gifts. If we have to go, then we feel it should be with a bang.
